How to replace your AirTag battery

When Your AirTag Battery is About to Give Out

Your trusty AirTag has been faithfully tracking down your keys, bag, or luggage for months now. But like all things that run on batteries, it's only a matter of time before the power starts to dwindle. According to Apple, an AirTag battery typically lasts around a year, depending on how often you use it.

The good news is that replacing a dead AirTag battery is ridiculously easy and doesn't require any special tools or expertise. And when the battery runs low, your iPhone will alert you with a notification, giving you just enough time to swap out the old one for a fresh new one.

How to Replace Your AirTag Battery

Here's what you need to do: first, hold your AirTag by the polished stainless steel side facing up. Next, press down firmly on the metal battery cover and rotate it counterclockwise until it stops moving. Then, lift off the cover and remove the old battery. Insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up, making sure it's seated correctly. Once you've done that, place the battery cover back onto your AirTag and press down gently while rotating it clockwise until it clicks into place.

As long as you follow these simple steps, there are no pairing or setup requirements necessary – your AirTag will automatically reconnect to your Apple ID once the new battery is installed.

When Do You Need to Replace Your AirTag Battery?

The answer is: when your iPhone tells you that it's running low. But don't wait too long! If you're unsure whether your AirTag battery needs replacing, just open up the Find My app and check on its status. Tap "Items" and select your AirTag – if a message appears saying "Low Battery," it's time to swap out that old cell.

It's worth noting that AirTags don't have any built-in screen or battery indicator, so Apple relies on notifications from your iPhone (or the Find My app) to let you know when something needs attention. The only signal they provide before a replacement becomes necessary is a low-battery warning – nothing more.

What If Your AirTag Doesn't Make a Sound?

Don't panic! If you insert a new battery and still don't hear that familiar chime, it's probably just because the old battery was misaligned or there's something wrong with the new one. Try securing the back cover onto your AirTag properly to see if the sound returns.

How Often Should You Replace Your AirTag Battery?

According to Apple, most AirTag batteries last a full year under normal use conditions – but that can vary depending on how often you're using its Precision Finding feature or listening to music through it. The good news is that your iPhone will notify you before the battery runs out completely, so there's no need to worry about running out of juice in a hurry.

One final note: when it comes to used coin batteries, don't throw them away in household trash – they can pose an environmental hazard if not disposed of properly. Instead, check with local recycling centers or retailers to see where you can drop off your old AirTag battery for proper disposal.

I'm surprised that the most popular items tracked by AirTags are actually shoes 🤑 - 34% of users are tracking their kicks! 👠 And it's not just about convenience, but also to prevent loss or theft (45% of users).

On a more interesting note, did you know that the Apple Watch has a battery life that's roughly equivalent to an AirTag's? 🕰️ Both devices can last around 18 months on average. The iPhone battery life is another story though - it's like comparing apples and oranges (or rather, iPhones and AirTags 😂).

man... think about it, just like our airtags run outta juice after a year or so... how often do we forget to recharge our own lives? 🤯 we get so caught up in the hustle and bustle that we forget to take care of ourselves, you know? anyway, replacing the battery is easy peasy, but taking care of our mental health can be kinda tricky. maybe it's time for us to make self-care a priority, just like we do with our airtags 😊

I'm so over how fast my AirTags are running out of juice lol 🤦‍♀️ i mean like, it's only been a year and the battery is already half gone? that means i gotta keep replacing them every 6 months or so 🕒️ i guess it's better than having to lose track of my stuff forever 😂 anyway, i just found this crazy cool video on YouTube about how to replace AirTag batteries in like, 2 seconds flat 🔥 watch till the end, it's wild!

It's crazy how something as simple as a replacement battery can be such a profound reflection on the human experience 🤯. Think about it - we all have these little "trackers" in our lives, whether it's an AirTag or just our own habits and routines, that help us stay connected to what matters most. But just like batteries run out of power, those things can also lose their importance or purpose over time. 🌫️

And what does this say about our relationship with technology? Are we just replacing old batteries without ever stopping to think about the true nature of the thing we're trying to keep alive? 🤖 Or are we genuinely just keeping track of our belongings and ourselves, searching for a sense of security in an uncertain world? 💭

🤔 I feel bad for people who have been using their AirTags nonstop and didn't even realize the battery was almost dead 😅 it's like we got too used to our tracking devices just working without a hitch 💻 anyway, i think 1 year is a pretty decent lifespan for a battery, but idk if that can be improved with some sort of more efficient tech 🤖

The thing is, I get why Apple wants us to think that a new battery should last around 1 year, but come on... have you seen the prices of those little CR2032 batteries? It's like they're made of gold or something! 🤑 And what about when it does finally run out and just stops working altogether? At least now we know how easy it is to replace them, right? Replaceable parts are a nice perk, but let's be real, it's still kinda annoying that our AirTags will eventually stop tracking things for us. 💔

omg I totally forgot my air tag battery was almost dead 🤦‍♂️ and it just started sending me notifications like crazy! so annoying 😩 but glad the replacement is easy peasy 🙌 anyone else have to deal with this?! 🤔 also, why do they make batteries for air tags so small 🤑😂

Replacing the battery on that tiny thing can be kinda like contemplating the fleeting nature of time itself... I mean, think about it - our trusty AirTags have been faithfully keeping track of our belongings all these months, but what does that really say about the impermanence of things? We rely so heavily on technology to remember for us, but at the same time, those batteries are just waiting to die. It's like we're reminded daily that everything is temporary... and yet, when it finally does happen - whether it's a battery running out or something more significant in our lives - isn't that just another chance to start anew? 🤔💡

omg i just got my air tag and i'm already worried about the battery dying 🤦‍♀️ like what if it loses track of my stuff? but i guess it's not a big deal since it's easy to replace lol. did you know that air tags are like super affordable too? like under 20 bucks for a new one 🤑

I mean come on, 1 year is a pretty long time for a battery... especially when it's used all day every day like that AirTag 🤦‍♂️. I'm surprised they don't offer some sort of extended battery option or something. And yeah, the whole "it'll just stop working one day" thing is super annoying... you gotta stay on top of it yourself now! 💡

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s kinda weird that Apple has to tell us how often the battery is gonna die 🤔📦. Like, we know our AirTags are getting used a lot so we should probably just be aware of when they start running low 💡. And what's with all the fuss about not being able to see the battery level? Can't we just get a little screen or something on there? 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, I guess it's good that replacing the batteries is super easy, lol, no need to get all fancy 🎉.

🤔 I think what's really important here is being proactive about maintenance and taking care of our devices before they start giving us trouble. It's easy to get complacent with tech, but the reality is that things can go wrong at any time. So when you do need to replace an AirTag battery, don't wait until it's on the fritz - take a few minutes to swap it out and make sure everything is working properly. It's all about being mindful of our own reliance on technology and taking steps to prevent problems before they happen 💡

omg u guys i just replaced my airtag battery 🤯 and it was so easy 😎 i got a notification on my iphone like 2 weeks before the battery died and now my keys are tracked again 📚👀 but i think apple should make those little batteries replaceable with a pin or something 👀💡 would save us from all this hassle lol
