Jailed Palestine Action activist ends 60-day hunger strike as health fails

Palestinian activist Teuta Hoxha has ended her 60-day hunger strike after her health began to deteriorate. The 29-year-old was denied medical treatment by prison authorities, who claim she needs urgent hospital care to prevent refeeding syndrome, a potentially fatal condition.

Hoxha's hunger strike was part of a mass protest by Palestine Action members in the UK prisons, who were jailed for alleged involvement in break-ins at an Israeli defence company and a Royal Air Force base. The protesters deny the charges against them, which include burglary and violent disorder.

After Hoxha paused her strike, only three out of eight Palestine Action hunger strikers remain on strike, demanding their release and calling for an end to what they describe as Israel's genocidal and apartheid regime.

The British government has proscribed Palestine Action as a "terrorist" organisation, categorizing it alongside armed groups such as al-Qaeda and ISIL. The decision has led to the arrest of over 1,600 people in connection with support for the group after near-weekly protests against its ban.

Hoxha's situation highlights the dire conditions faced by Palestinian activists being held in UK prisons, and the need for urgent medical attention and humane treatment.

Wow ๐Ÿคฏ. The fact that Teuta Hoxha was denied medical treatment by prison authorities is just mind-blowing ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I mean, how can you punish someone for protesting peacefully and demanding their human rights? It's like they're saying that a person's life isn't worth saving unless they're willing to give up on their cause ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ.

Interesting ๐Ÿ‘€. The British government is really good at making examples out of people who dare to speak out against Israel's policies, but what about the real issue here? The treatment of Palestinian activists in UK prisons is a humanitarian crisis waiting to happen ๐Ÿ˜จ. We need to be talking about this more and demanding better for Teuta Hoxha and all those still fighting for justice ๐Ÿ’ช.

Wow again ๐Ÿคฏ. Can you imagine being locked up in a prison with no access to medical care if you just happened to be holding a hunger strike? It's unacceptable ๐Ÿ˜ก. Let's keep the pressure on until we get some real change happening ๐Ÿšจ.

omg this is so worrying Teuta Hoxha was literally starving herself for 60 days ๐Ÿคฏ i cant even imagine how hard it must be for her and the other protesters still on strike their situation is just so unfair... the fact that they're being denied medical treatment and are being labeled as terrorists by the government its all so wrong. ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ we need to keep supporting Teuta and the others until they get the help they deserve ๐Ÿ’–

the more i read about this story, the more it makes me think about what we consider 'justice' and 'human rights' in our societies... ๐Ÿค” if a hunger strike is deemed 'terrorism', but they're actually just demanding basic dignity and equality, doesn't that speak to something deeper within us? are we really so divided by labels and rules, or are we just trying to avoid confronting the real issues at hand?

i'm not gonna say anything about politics or government decisions, but i do think it's time for us to reevaluate our relationship with truth and reality... ๐ŸŒŽ when does a protest become 'terrorism'? what even is that?

๐Ÿค• Teuta Hoxha's 60-day hunger strike is a harsh reminder of the human rights issues in our country's prisons ๐Ÿš”. I'm really worried about her health now that she's ended her strike ๐Ÿ’‰. It's unacceptable that prison authorities denied her medical treatment when her health started to decline ๐Ÿค•.

The whole situation with Palestine Action is super concerning ๐Ÿค. I don't think it's fair that they've been labeled a "terrorist" organisation ๐Ÿšซ. The British government needs to look into this and understand the impact their decisions have on people's lives ๐Ÿ“Š.

We need to make sure these activists receive the medical attention and humane treatment they deserve ๐Ÿ’–. It's not just about their physical health, but also their mental well-being ๐Ÿคฏ. I hope Teuta Hoxha makes a speedy recovery and that her fellow hunger strikers get the support they need ๐Ÿ’•.

๐Ÿค• this is just so concerning - Hoxha's experience is a total travesty ๐Ÿšซ she was literally starving herself to bring attention to the fact that her health isn't even being taken seriously by the prison authorities... 60 days without proper care? ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ it's insane that they'd deny someone medical treatment in this state and then try to lock them up for speaking out. ๐Ÿšซ

omg, teuta hoxha is a total hero ๐Ÿคฉ! 60 days without food, that's insane ! i'm so glad she got the help she needed, but like, what about her mates who are still on strike? they deserve justice too ๐Ÿค. it's wild that the gov is classifying palestine action as a terrorist org tho... sounds like a total setup to me ๐Ÿ˜’. anyway, teuta's story is a wake-up call for all us humans to stand up for what's right and fight against injustice ๐Ÿ’ช. we gotta keep the pressure on until they release those activists and end the apartheid regime ๐ŸŒŸ. can't let the gov silence them with labels and arrestations ๐Ÿ”’.

I'm not buying that Palestine Action is a terrorist org ๐Ÿค”. I mean, what's the difference between their actions and those of say, environmental activists or animal rights protesters? They're just trying to bring attention to a cause they care about, same as anyone else. Labeling them a terrorist group just 'cause you disagree with their methods or views is unfair ๐Ÿ˜’.

I'm also super frustrated that the gov't won't even have an open conversation about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. It's always "you're being extremist", or "we won't comment on this". Meanwhile, the real extremists are the ones with guns and tanks rolling into Gaza ๐Ÿšซ.

Hoxha's hunger strike was a last resort, but I get why she did it ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ. She knows the gov't is holding Palestinian activists in these conditions for far too long โฐ. We need to see some accountability here ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

๐Ÿค• I'm so relieved Teuta Hoxha ended her 60-day hunger strike but it's still super worrying that she was denied proper medical care for 2 whole months! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Refeeding syndrome is no joke, it can be fatal if not treated ASAP. It just shows how desperate and vulnerable Palestinian activists are when they're stuck in UK prisons - no access to decent healthcare, just being poked and prodded by authorities who don't want to listen ๐Ÿ™„

The whole thing with Palestine Action getting proscribed as a "terrorist" org is also super concerning. I mean, it's clear they were protesting against Israel's actions but does that automatically make them terrorists? ๐Ÿค” The British government needs to think about the human impact of their decisions and not just label people without giving them a fair hearing.

It's good that only 3 of the original hunger strikers are still holding out, demanding justice for themselves and others. ๐ŸŒŸ We should be supporting these activists and calling for an end to this apartheid regime in Israel. It's time for some serious change! ๐Ÿ’ช

Ugh, it's about time Teuta Hoxha ended her hunger strike... I mean, who needs 60 days without food anyway? ๐Ÿคข The fact that she had to resort to a hunger strike in the first place is just another example of how broken the system is - prisons that deny medical treatment and then claim they're doing it for your own good.

And now, only three other people are still on strike... how long will those ones last? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ The government's decision to proscribe Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation is just another power move to silence dissenting voices. It's not like they're trying to create more problems or anything... but let's be real, that's exactly what they're doing.

The British government can't even get their own laws right when it comes to treating prisoners fairly. And now we have a bunch of people arrested for supporting a group the government says is terrorist... just great. Meanwhile, Teuta Hoxha gets to live another day because her health was about to become an issue... sounds like justice to me ๐Ÿ˜’.

idk why the gov is calling Palestine Action a terrorist org ๐Ÿค”. 1600 ppl got arrested just cuz they wanna protest? that dont seem right to me... i mean, i know some of these protests got violent but come on, you cant just lock up ppl for exercising their rights ๐Ÿšซ. and whats with this refeeding syndrome stuff? sounds like a fancy way of sayin someone needs medical attention ๐Ÿค’. Teuta's health is still pretty bad tho, hopefully she gets the help she needs ASAP ๐Ÿ’‰

๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿšจ just heard about Teuta Hoxha ending her 60-day hunger strike after they basically starved her in prison ๐Ÿคฏ like what even is refeeding syndrome? Sounds like a death sentence to me... ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ and to think she was protesting apartheid, not terrorism ๐Ÿค” need to talk about the government's policies on Palestine Action ASAP ๐Ÿ‘Š these 3 remaining hunger strikers gotta be so scared for their lives ๐Ÿ’€ meanwhile, over 1,600 people are being arrested for supporting a group labeled as "terrorist"... what's going on in our country? ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿค I'm so relieved to hear that Teuta Hoxha has ended her 60-day hunger strike ๐Ÿ™! It's absolutely horrific that she was denied medical treatment by prison authorities, and it's a huge concern that the British government has proscribed Palestine Action as a "terrorist" organisation ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. This kind of labelling can lead to unfair arrests and mistreatment of innocent people.

It's also really worrying that Teuta's hunger strike highlights the dire conditions faced by Palestinian activists in UK prisons ๐Ÿšจ. These individuals are being denied their basic human rights, including access to medical care, which is completely unacceptable.

We need to make sure that our governments are prioritising human rights and dignity over politics and fear-mongering ๐Ÿ’ช. Let's keep supporting these brave individuals and demanding justice for the Palestinian people! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿคฏ 60 days without food is mental! I can barely imagine how hard it must be to deal with that kind of stress & pain. Poor Teuta Hoxha, she's a brave one for sticking it out even when her body was screaming for help ๐Ÿ˜ฉ.

It's just crazy how the authorities are treating these prisoners. Like, they're human beings too, you know? ๐Ÿค They have the right to medical attention and not be locked up in some kind of prison camp. It's unacceptable that the gov't is labelling Palestine Action as a terrorist org, it's just so...๐Ÿ™„.

I'm glad Teuta's health is improving, but what about the others who are still on strike? They deserve the same treatment & support. We should be supporting them, not treating them like they're some kind of enemy ๐Ÿค. The gov't needs to wake up and see that these people are just trying to fight for their rights ๐ŸŒŸ.

And can we please talk about how dire the conditions are in those prisons? It's heartbreaking. We need to make some noise & demand change ๐Ÿ’ช. These prisoners have done nothing wrong, they're just activists trying to make a difference ๐Ÿ’–.

OMG, like can't believe Teuta Hoxha went through all that for a cause she believes in ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ™. Refeeding syndrome is super scary and I'm just glad her health got better ๐Ÿคž. The British gov's decision to proscribe Palestine Action as a "terrorist" org is so whack ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’ฃ, it's like they're ignoring the fact that these ppl are just trying to bring attention to an important issue ๐Ÿ‘Š. We should be supporting them instead of villainizing them ๐Ÿ’–. It's all about human rights and dignity, fam ๐Ÿค
