Liberal-progressive party D66 wins election, Dutch media report

The Netherlands' general election has resulted in a historic victory for the liberal-progressive party D66, with Rob Jetten, 38, poised to become the youngest prime minister in the country's history.

According to reports from the news agency ANP, D66 is now expected to take the lead in coalition negotiations, potentially paving the way for a new government that could last longer than its predecessors. As of Friday, Geert Wilders' anti-immigration party PVV was seen as no longer a viable option, with many voters shifting their support to smaller far-right parties.

While D66 received an initial prediction of 26 seats in the election, which centered around housing, immigration, healthcare, and competent leadership, they are now expected to secure one more seat, taking their total to 27. This win marks a significant shift towards centrist politics in the Netherlands, with experts attributing it to Jetten's impressive debating skills, clean-cut image, and positive messaging.

Despite the clear victory for D66, many experts warn that forming a government will be challenging due to the fragmented nature of Dutch politics. Lรฉonie de Jonge, an expert on far-right extremism, notes that while D66 has won, the underlying message of the election suggests that the far right is not defeated and poses a significant challenge for the new government.

The potential coalition partners, including the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) and the GreenLeft-Labour party, have expressed caution about working with Jetten's team. However, it remains to be seen whether they will ultimately agree to form a left-right coalition, which would likely have the strongest support in both chambers of parliament.

For now, Rob Jetten is urging all mainstream parties to unite behind his vision for cooperation and progress on key issues such as housing, migration, climate change, and economic growth.

๐Ÿ˜Š this election result is kinda crazy - young PM ๐Ÿคฏ I'm not surprised that D66 won tho, their campaign was super relatable & pragmatic ๐Ÿ’ก Rob Jetten's image is pretty spotless too ๐Ÿ‘ it'll be interesting to see how he handles the coalition negotiations tho, gotta navigate all those different parties & interests ๐Ÿค” and yeah, far-right politics in NL is a weird beast ๐Ÿฆ–

๐Ÿคฃ Can you believe it? The Netherlands has elected a Prime Minister younger than me ๐Ÿ˜‚! I mean, I'm not saying Rob Jetten is that old... but he's definitely "experienced" enough to know how to get the job done ๐ŸŽฏ. On a more serious note (just for a sec, don't worry!), this is some major centrist vibes we're seeing in The Netherlands. Who knew housing, immigration, and healthcare could be so lit? ๐Ÿ”ฅ Anyway, I'm curious to see how D66's gonna shake things up with their coalition partners โ€“ fingers crossed they can make it work without too much drama ๐Ÿ™.

man this is wild ๐Ÿคฏ I remember when Netherlands was still trying to figure out its identity back in the 90s, now it's like they're leading the way with centrist politics ๐Ÿ’ก D66's victory is a game changer, I mean Rob Jetten's not even old yet! ๐Ÿ˜‚ can you imagine someone that young making history? ๐Ÿค” but for real though, it's gonna be tough forming a government with all these different parties. far right still poses a threat and stuff...

I'm telling you, something fishy's going on here... ๐ŸŸ Think about it, D66 just happens to win this historic election with Rob Jetten at the helm? It's too perfect. What if they didn't really want Geert Wilders' PVV to win and wanted a coalition government instead? I mean, who is this kid Jetten, 38 years old, and he just becomes PM overnight? Sounds like some kind of setup to me... ๐Ÿค” And what about all these "experts" saying the far-right's not defeated? That's just what they want us to think, right? I've got a bad feeling about this new government. They're gonna bring in all sorts of radical ideas and try to push through some shady deals behind closed doors... ๐Ÿ˜’

D66's win is awesome ๐Ÿคฉ! Rob Jetten is gonna be an awesome PM at 38 lol, Netherlands needs fresh blood in politics. I'm all about this centrist politics shift, it's about time we move away from extreme parties like PVV. Jetten's debating skills and positive vibes won over the masses, kudos to him! ๐Ÿ™Œ

I'm thinking what's gonna happen with this new government ๐Ÿค”? D66 seems like a solid choice but I'm worried about those smaller far-right parties... they're still out there ๐Ÿšจ. And Rob Jetten is really young to be PM, can he handle the pressure? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

just saw this news and gotta say i'm low-key impressed with Rob Jetten's move, 38 yrs old and already PM? that's fire ๐Ÿš€, but at the same time gotta be concerned about those smaller far-right parties they're gaining traction which could lead to some major problems down the line. also why is everyone so scared of working together? it feels like we're stuck in this cycle of coalition negotiations and nothing ever gets done ๐Ÿ˜’. Jetten's got some great ideas but can he actually make it happen? time will tell ๐Ÿค”

๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ก So I'm not surprised about this outcome tbh, the Dutch have been shifting towards more centrist politics for a while now ๐Ÿค. It's awesome that Rob Jetten is going to be the youngest PM ever tho! ๐Ÿ’ฅ He seems like a pretty cool dude with great debating skills ๐Ÿ“š. But what really got me thinking is how fragmented Dutch politics is, it's like a big puzzle ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. I'm curious to see how it all comes together and if they can form a government without too much drama ๐Ÿคž. One thing for sure, Rob Jetten needs to bring the positivity and cooperation vibes to those negotiations ๐Ÿ’–!

๐Ÿค” So I'm thinking, this is a big deal for Netherlands right? They've got this young guy Rob Jetten who's like 38 years old and he's gonna be prime minister ๐Ÿ˜ฎ that's crazy! And I guess D66 is all about being centrist which means they're trying to find a middle ground on all these issues like housing, immigration, healthcare... it sounds like they want to make things more fair for everyone ๐Ÿค

But at the same time, there's this whole thing with far-right parties and experts saying that the left right coalition is gonna be hard to form because of how fragmented Dutch politics is ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, if they can't agree on things then it's like, how are they supposed to make progress? ๐Ÿ’ผ

๐Ÿค” I'm kinda surprised at how big of a deal this whole 'youngest prime minister' thing is... like what's the hurry? 38 isn't old, right? ๐Ÿ™ƒ Anyway, I do think it's cool that D66 won, they've been talking about these issues for ages and it sounds like they have some solid ideas. The centrist politics shift makes sense to me, we're all getting a bit tired of the extremes, you know? ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿ˜Š So like, Netherlands just got a new PM and it's pretty cool! 38 years old is like super young to be in that role ๐Ÿคฏ, but Rob Jetten seems like a total pro ๐Ÿ™Œ. I'm loving the centrist vibe they're going for, it's all about finding common ground and working together ๐Ÿค. But, gotta say, the far-right parties are still a thing ๐Ÿ˜ฌ... it's like, we can't just ignore them and hope they go away ๐Ÿšซ. We need to have real conversations and find solutions that work for everyone ๐Ÿค. Fingers crossed the new government can make some waves and bring about real change ๐Ÿ’ช!

๐Ÿค” yooo so like Netherlands just had election and D66 won big time ๐ŸŽ‰ 27 seats is a lot! Rob Jetten is like the youngest PM ever tho ๐Ÿ™Œ i wonder if he's ready for the job tho ๐Ÿ˜ฌ has anyone seen him debate? heard he's got skills ๐Ÿ’ช anyway guess what, experts saying it's gonna be hard to form gov 'cause Dutch politics is super fragmented ๐Ÿคฏ Lรฉonie de Jonge saying far right isn't gone yet ๐Ÿšซ so we'll see how that plays out... and btw who are these other parties D66 will be working with? CDA & GreenLeft-Labour, huh? ๐Ÿค”

๐ŸŒŽ I'm loving this turn of events in the Netherlands! A young and progressive leader like Rob Jetten taking the reins could be a breath of fresh air for politics. His emphasis on unity and cooperation over polarizing rhetoric is really refreshing ๐Ÿค. Of course, it's not all sunshine and rainbows - Dutch politics are notoriously tricky to navigate ๐ŸŒช๏ธ - but I'm hopeful that Jetten's centrist approach will bring people together. We'll see how the coalition negotiations play out, but for now, I'm excited about the potential for a more collaborative government ๐Ÿ’ก.
