Liverpool beat Chelsea to agree £60m summer deal for Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet

Liverpool have secured the services of Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet in a £60m deal, with the 20-year-old completing a summer transfer to Anfield. The French teenager's decision to join Liverpool comes after Chelsea, who were reportedly pushing hard for his signature, ultimately failed to persuade him to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot had been keen to strengthen his side ahead of the second half of the season, with injuries to key players such as Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley creating a need for reinforcements. Jacquet's arrival is expected to provide competition in the backline and potentially add some much-needed depth to the squad.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have accepted a £48m bid from Wolves for Jørgen Strand Larsen, although the deal is contingent on the player undergoing a medical. The Norway international striker joined Wolves on a permanent deal last summer but has struggled to find consistency in front of goal this season.

The French forward Jean-Philippe Mateta is also set to join Milan in a £30m deal, although he will require further medical tests due to concerns over an existing knee injury. Nottingham Forest have made a bid for Mateta, but Palace would prefer not to sell him to a Premier League rival.

Wolves are pursuing deals for Southampton striker Adam Armstrong and Marseille midfielder Angel Gomes ahead of Monday's transfer deadline. Nottingham Forest have signed goalkeeper Stefan Ortega on a permanent deal from Manchester City, with the 33-year-old set to provide competition for Matz Sels in the goalkeeping department.

In other moves, Robin Gosens, a Fiorentina full-back, is believed to be a target for Nottingham Forest after Oleksandr Zinchenko was recalled by Arsenal. Ademola Lookman, a former Everton striker, is in advanced talks to join Atlético Madrid from Atalanta in a £35m deal, while Brighton forward Tommy Watson has joined Championship high-flyers Millwall on loan until the end of the season.

Finally, Jamaal Lascelles, who has been at Newcastle since 2014, has been given permission to undergo a medical at Leicester and discuss personal terms after agreeing for the club to release him from his contract.

£60m for a 20-year-old centre-back? It's just getting out of hand! Liverpool are throwing money around like it's going out of style 🤯. What's next, £80m for a midfielder who can barely pass the ball? I don't get why they're not focusing on developing their own youth squad instead of breaking the bank for some fancy foreign player 🙄. And what's with the medical tests holding up deals? Can't we just trust these young players to perform without needing all that extra scrutiny? 😒.

Just heard that Liverpool just bought this young French defender, Jérémy Jacquet, for like £60m... seems like a lot of cash but gotta say I'm intrigued by this move. He's only 20 years old so maybe he's got some tricks up his sleeve. Wonder if he'll be able to help the team stay competitive in the second half of the season 🤔. On another note, always crazy how players swap clubs like that, some don't seem too fussed about leaving their current teams for new ones... I guess it's all part of the game 💸

Ugh 🙄... another transfer window that's all about the big bucks 💸 and young talent getting lost in the shuffle 🤷‍♂️. I mean, what's the point of £60m for some 20-year-old centre-back when we're still seeing veteran players like Gosens and Zinchenko get sold to lower-league clubs? 😒 And don't even get me started on the medical issues... it's like these clubs are just trying to string players along 💉. Can't we just focus on building a solid team with some decent wage caps instead of going all out for these astronomical deals? 🤑 It's just so frustrating, especially when teams like Forest and Wolves are getting in on the action, but not actually spending the cash... 🤔

Just got wind of some juicy transfer news! 😏 Liverpool just splashed out £60m on French teen Jérémy Jacquet 🤯 I think this is a great signing, especially given their injury woes. They're gonna need all the depth they can get, and Jacquet's arrival should bring some much-needed competition to that backline.

On the other hand, Wolves are getting aggressive in the transfer market, targeting Southampton's Adam Armstrong and Marseille's Angel Gomes 🤔 Not sure if they'll be able to pull it off, but it's always exciting to see teams trying to make a push for promotion. And hey, Crystal Palace might've gotten a decent deal with Jørgen Strand Larsen for £48m 💸.

I'm also intrigued by the Robin Gosens situation 🤔 Apparently, he's been linked to Nottingham Forest after Oleksandr Zinchenko got recalled by Arsenal 😂. You never know what's gonna happen in the transfer market!

This is gonna be an interesting season with all these transfers happening... I'm still thinking about what happened with Mateta, I thought Palace were gonna hold on to him but it looks like Milan swooped in at the last minute... 🤔 And now Liverpool's got Jacquet, that's a decent signing for them, not sure how effective he'll be though... 🤷‍♂️ But hey, Wolves are still trying to strengthen their squad and Atalanta lost Ademola Lookman, so it's all good for now, I guess 😊.

🤔
just thinking about liverpool's new player jérémy jacquet 🦁... £60m is crazy money lol 😂 but i guess they need someone to push their defenders 🚨... and it's not just about the cash, gotta see how he fits in with the squad 👥... maybe he can learn from the likes of viña and konate 🤝... anyway, can't wait to see him in action 💪

I'm so done with all these transfers 🤦‍♂️. In my day, we didn't have all this drama in the summer window. It was just about finding a decent player who could play without breaking the bank 💸. I remember when Thierry Henry first came to Arsenal back in '99... man, he was just 20 years old then 🕰️. We thought he was going to change the game overnight, and boy did he ever 🔥. Now it's all about the money and the hype... it's like they're trying to make these kids feel like stars before they even step foot on the pitch 🌟. I just hope some of these youngsters can live up to the hype, you know? 🤞

I'm hyped for Jérémy Jacquet to join Liverpool, he's gonna bring some serious youth energy to their backline 🤩. I mean, £60m is a big price tag but it's not like they're breaking the bank or anything 😂. They need that depth and competition in the squad, especially with all these injuries piling up on them. It's not just about signing anyone, though - this kid's got potential and could be a game-changer for Liverpool in years to come ⚽️.

I THINK LIVERPOOL ARE GETTING SOME GOOD YOUNG PLAYERS IN, LIKE JÉRÉMY JACQUET! HE'S GOT A LOT OF POTENTIAL AND COULD BE A GREAT ADDITION TO THEIR DEFENSE 🤔. £60M IS A LOT FOR A 20-YEAR-OLD PLAYER, BUT I THINK IT'S WORTH IT IF HE CAN HELP THEM WIN SOME TROPHIES IN THE COMING YEARS 🏆. I'M ALSO HOPING THAT JØRGEN STRAND LARSEN WILL HAVE A BETTER SEASON WITH CRYSTAL PALACE, THEY NEED SOMEONE TO SCORE GOALS FOR THEM ⚽️!

I'm telling ya... the transfer market is crazy right now 🤯! £60m for some young French kid? I don't get it, back in my day we didn't need all that money to sign a decent defender 😂. And what's with all these loans and deals, can't they just make up their minds? It's like trying to solve a puzzle blindfolded 🤪.

I mean, I'm happy for Liverpool and all, but £60m is a lot of dosh 💸. And have you seen the state of some of these players, they're not even established yet! 🙄 Adam Armstrong, Angel Gomes... who's gonna be the one to step up and make it big? 🤔

And what about all the money that's being spent on old guys like Stefan Ortega? I mean, I get it, experience is valuable, but £35m? That's just plain silly 💸. You can't put a price on youth and energy, man! 🔥

yeah so liverpool just dropped like 60m on some young centre back jérémy jacquet... sounds fishy to me 🤔 he's only 20, what's gonna happen when he gets injured? gonna be stuck on the bench for ages or something? and why do they need him so badly? got some key players out with injuries or something?

and have you seen these other transfer moves? wolves are trying to buy a lot of people 🤑 ademola lookman is like 35m, that's insane! and crystal palace just gave up on jørgen strand larsen after like a year or two... what's the plan here?

anyway, milan just signed jean-phillippe mateta for 30m 💸 but he got some injury concerns so who knows if he'll even make it through the season. and atalanta is losing him to atlético madrid 🚫 tough on them.

overall, i think the transfer market is getting out of control 🤑💸

lmao can't believe liverpool just spent £60m on a 20yo center back 🤯 like what's next they gonna buy a whole team of kids? 😂 anyway, i'm not saying jacquet is bad or anything but have you seen the squad that wolves are looking at now? adam armstrong and angel gomes? 💁‍♂️ that's some serious depth right there 🚫 and let's be real crystal palace just got roasted for selling mateta to milan 👀 they should've held out for more $$$💸

lol what's going on with all these transfers lol 🤣, like i get that liverpool needed some depth but £60m on jacquet? sounds like they're trying to keep up with chelsea or somethin 😂, anyway gotta give credit to rennes for getting a sick price for him, but im curious how johansen's gonna fit in alongside frimpong & bradley 🤔

🤔 just saw that Liverpool got this awesome defender Jérémy Jacquet 🇫🇷 for £60m 🤑 it's gonna be sick having another young gun coming in, hopefully he'll help us win some trophies 💪 and also good luck to Crystal Palace, they gotta sort out their defense issues ASAP 🚨 meanwhile, Wolves are being super sneaky trying to sign Southampton's Adam Armstrong 🤫 and Marseille's Angel Gomes 🏴‍☠️ let's see how these deals go down 📝

Idk if I'm excited or annoyed that Liverpool just splashed out £60m on this young French centre-back... like, they really needed someone that much 🤔. On one hand, Jacquet's arrival could bring some fresh energy and competition in the backline, but on the other hand, it feels like a huge waste of money if he doesn't exactly turn out to be the next Virgil van Dijk 😂. And what about Chelsea? Like, shouldn't they be getting all the credit for trying to sign him first? 🤷‍♂️

Just saw that Liverpool went all out on Jérémy Jacquet! £60m is a big chunk of change 🤑 I'm not sure what I think about it, but if he can bring some depth to their backline, I'm all for it 😊. The transfer market is always crazy this time of year, with teams trying to make a push for the playoffs or the top spot. It's gonna be interesting to see how these deals shake out and affect the rest of the league 🤔. Think Liverpool might finally have the solid squad they need to compete at their best 💪.

🤔 just saw that Liverpool are splashing out big money on Jérémy Jacquet 🤑 and I gotta say, idk if it was worth £60m lol... like, the kid's got potential but can he really make an impact? 🤷‍♂️ Palace got a decent offer in for Strand Larsen, hope Wolves don't mess this up 🤞 and Mateta to Milan is a no-brainer, his injury concerns are huge 🚨. Armstrong and Gomes could be solid additions for Wolves but we'll see how it all plays out 🎯

Wow 😮 Liverpool just broke the bank for Jérémy Jacquet 🤯 A £60m deal is insane for a 20-year-old centre-back! Interesting 👀 how Chelsea's interest didn't work out, now Liverpool get to benefit from it 💪 The transfer market never ceases to amaze me 🤑
