Maine East sophomore Jayden Dozie's clutch shot ends Niles North's 30-game conference winning streak

Jayden Dozie's clutch three-pointer in the final seconds of Friday night's game not only ended Niles North's 30-game conference winning streak but also solidified his reputation as one of the top young players in the Chicago area.

The Maine East sophomore, who has been more selective with his shot attempts this season after being criticized for taking too many ill-advised shots last year, was in perfect position to make a game-winning three-pointer. With the shot clock winding down and the Blue Demons trailing by two points, Dozie launched a deep ball that went through the net, giving Maine East a 65-63 victory over their arch-rivals.

"I took really crazy shots last year," Dozie said in hindsight. "This year is about playing as a team and taking better shots." His old creative aggressiveness came in handy on Friday, but it was his newfound focus on teamwork that ultimately led to the win.

Maine East coach Sergio Muro praised his players' chemistry, saying, "I really love my backcourt... Brandon has really taken [Dozie] under his wing, and [Dozie] has bought in." The senior guard Brandon Schreiber added 16 points to help seal the victory, and sophomore Albert Cooper chipped in with 11 points.

The win was a huge upset for Maine East, who trailed by seven with four minutes left. Dozie's clutch shot will be remembered for years to come, but Muro cautioned against getting ahead of himself: "You would think this could really change things for us... But we coach high school basketball; it's a long season."

Niles North's loss marked their first conference defeat in 30 games, and the Vikings outrebounded Maine East 40-27. Senior Rayne Punzal led Niles North with 14 points, but it was not enough to overcome Dozie's game-winning shot.

The victory will give Maine East a boost as they head into February, but Muro remains focused on the bigger picture: "It's a long season... We are going to try to finish the race and play our best basketball."

man this dozie kid is straight fire 🀯 like he took that clutch 3-pointer with ease and i'm not surprised he's killing it on the court now after last year's struggles he finally got his head in the game πŸ™ coach muro said he's playing as a team and taking better shots but let's be real dozie was always talented, he just needed to calm down πŸ˜‚ niles north got destroyed outrebounded 40-27 lol what a blow to their conference winning streak though the win for maine east is huge i'm hyped for them πŸ’₯

I'm so stoked for that Maine East squad πŸ€©πŸ€! Jayden Dozie's clutch three-pointer was pure magic ✨⚑️. I mean, who doesn't love a game-winner? 😍 The fact that he was more selective with his shot attempts this season shows how much he's grown as a player πŸ’ͺ. And the chemistry between him and Brandon Schreiber is undeniable πŸ”₯πŸ‘«. Coach Muro needs to be proud of these players too πŸ™Œ! It's gonna be an exciting February for Maine East, and I'm here for it πŸ˜†πŸ€.

omg what a clutch performance from Jayden Dozie 🀯! I mean, who needs a highlight reel when you can just win games with one shot? πŸ˜‚ seriously though, it's awesome to see him grow as a player, taking more calculated shots and playing with his teammates. coach Muro is all about keeping things in perspective tho... 30-game conference winning streak goes down, but they still gotta finish the season strong πŸ€. Maine East got some serious momentum now, can't wait to see what they do next πŸ’ͺ

Man, I'm so over this forum. Can't we just have a discussion without having to navigate through all these clunky buttons and menus? 🀯 Anyway, back to the game. That Jayden Dozie kid is on fire! I mean, 30-game conference winning streak gets snapped like that? The kid's got skills, but what really impressed me was how he and his team worked together to take down those Vikings.

And have you seen Maine East coach Sergio Muro's comments? "It's a long season... We are going to try to finish the race and play our best basketball." Come on, coach! You're not exactly hiding your true intentions there. πŸ˜‚ But seriously, it's good to see that the team is taking this win in stride and focusing on the bigger picture.

Ugh, I wish we could have a proper discussion thread without all these ads and notifications popping up. Can't they just leave us alone? 🀬

man I just saw that Jayden Dozie hit this insane 3-pointer in the final seconds of the game 🀯😲 he was so calm and focused, like he knew it was gonna go in lol. I'm not surprised though, he's been working on his shot selection this season after getting roasted last year. Coach Muro is right too, they need to stay grounded and keep playing as a team. But what a win for Maine East! I love how the backcourt chemistry between Dozie and Brandon Schreiber was on point πŸ€πŸ»πŸ’š. And yeah, Niles North's losing streak is over... but it's not like it was gonna change everything right now πŸ˜…πŸ‘€

man this kid Jayden Dozie is on fire 🀩! i love how he's been working on his shot selection and it paid off big time in that game. being selective with your shots is so underrated, especially in high school hoops where it's easy to get caught up in trying to be a hero. but seriously, his clutch three-pointer was insane 😲! and it's awesome that he has a teammate like Brandon Schreiber who's helping him out. the coach said something about chemistry and it sounds like they really have a good thing going 🀝

Man πŸ™„, this kid Dozie is straight fire πŸ’₯! I remember when we used to watch high school basketball back in my day and it was all about individual heroics. But now, it's all about teamwork and chemistry πŸ‘«. Maine East's coach is totally on point with his emphasis on playing as a team and taking smart shots πŸ€”.

I love how Dozie has transformed from last year to this year - he used to be like that reckless shooter we all know πŸ˜‰, but now he's more calculated in his approach. And having Brandon Schreiber taking him under his wing is huge πŸ‘.

This win over Niles North is massive for Maine East and it'll definitely give them a boost going into February πŸ’ͺ. But let's not get ahead of ourselves - Muro is right, it's just one game and you can't guarantee anything πŸ™. Still, Dozie's clutch three-pointer will be remembered for ages to come πŸ”₯!

🀯 This kid Jayden Dozie is straight fire πŸš€! I mean, he went from taking crazy shots last year to being super selective this year. And then BAM! He hits that game-winning three-pointer 🌟. The way his team came together and played as a unit was amazing πŸ‘«. Coach Muro's praise for the backcourt chemistry is well-deserved - those players are like a well-oiled machine πŸ’ͺ. It's gonna be tough for Maine East to keep this momentum going, but I'm hyped to see how they finish the season πŸŽ‰!

omg I'm freaking out over this clutch three-pointer by Jayden Dozie!!! 🀯πŸ”₯ he was so calm under pressure, just launched that shot and it went in like magic 🎩. Maine East totally got robbed of being swept by Niles North, those guys were on fire πŸ”₯. I love how the coach is staying chill about this win, no need to get too hyped too early 😊. seriously tho, Jayden Dozie's growth as a player is insane, he's gotta keep up that teamwork vibe 🀝. can't wait to see what's next for Maine East! πŸ’ͺ

man that clutch 3-pointer by Jayden Dozie was insane 🀯! he's come a long way since last year when he was taking way too many bad shots, but it's awesome to see him focusing on teamwork and making his teammates better πŸ’ͺ. coach Sergio Muro is really onto something with that backcourt chemistry, Brandon Schreiber and Albert Cooper are killing it 🀝. yeah, this win will give Maine East a boost, but you gotta remember it's just one game, they still have a long way to go in the season ⏰. let's see how they do in Feb...

I just saw that thread about Jayden Dozie and I have to say... that kid is a star in the making! 🀩 His clutch three-pointer was insane, but what really impressed me was his maturity and focus on playing as a team. Last year he got so much flak for taking bad shots, but it's clear he learned from those mistakes. And that senior guard Brandon Schreiber helping him out? Nice to see some veteran leadership in high school hoops! 😎 The fact that Maine East came back from down 7 with 4 minutes left is a huge win, and I'm loving the vibe of their chemistry on offense. Can't wait to see what they do next month! πŸ’ͺ

Wow 🀩 interesting how Jayden Dozie turned his game around, from taking too many shots last year to being more selective this season. The fact that he still managed to make a clutch three-pointer in the final seconds shows he's got some serious skills πŸ’₯ and it's cool to see him having a good rapport with Brandon Schreiber πŸ‘

OMG I was just thinking about how sick Jayden Dozie is now lol like he used to take so many crazy shots last year 🀣 but this season he's really stepped it up and proved himself as a legit top player in Chicago! The fact that his old coach would criticize him for taking too many bad shots last year is pretty funny πŸ˜‚. Coach Muro must be super proud of the team right now, and I can see why Brandon Schreiber has taken Dozie under his wing, they make a sick backcourt duo πŸ’―. Maine East's win over Niles North was totally unexpected, but that clutch three-pointer by Dozie will go down in history πŸ†!

OMG, that clutch three-pointer by Jayden Dozie was SO cool! 🀯 I'm loving the fact that he took a step back from his crazy shooting attempts last year and focused on teamwork this time around. It's amazing how much of a difference it made! πŸ™Œ The chemistry between Dozie and Brandon Schreiber is real, and Albert Cooper bringing 11 points off the bench was a great bonus. Maine East's win over Niles North was totally unexpected, but it's awesome that they got that confidence boost heading into February. πŸ’ͺ My only gripe is that I wish Maine East wasn't counting on this one game to change their season, 'cause high school basketball is all about staying consistent and playing your best from start to finish... πŸ‘

omg u gotta feel 4 maine east right now!!! 🀩 their coach is low key genius, i mean c'mon 30 game winning streak got broke & it was by one of the top young players in the chicago area, jayden dozie! πŸ’₯ he's come so far from last year, all those crazy shots & now he's makin moves as a team player, that clutch three-pointer was EVERYTHING!!! πŸ™Œ can't wait 2 see what the rest of the season brings for maine east, but u gotta admit, niles north is still gonna be a contender... 😏

πŸ€” I mean, come on, 30-game winning streak? That's crazy. You gotta give credit where credit is due tho. Dozie stepped up when it mattered most and his shot was pure πŸ”₯. Maine East's got some solid players, but that one win can make all the difference in the standings. Now they just gotta keep that momentum going... 😊
