Marist survives late surge from Fremd to secure big win

Marist RedHawks secure crucial victory over Fremd, proving their worth against elite competition.

The Marist RedHawks' Christmas season has been a mixed bag, marked by wins against top-tier teams and losses to rivals Nazareth, Carmel, and Benet. However, Monday's showdown with Fremd proved to be the perfect test of their mettle, and they emerged victorious after a nail-biting 59-47 win in the Coach Kipps Hoopsfest.

Senior guard Olivia Cosme, who scored eight points, reflected on the team's motivation: "We beat them in the summer, but one of our goals for the season was to beat them." The RedHawks' spread offense, which typically poses a challenge for opponents due to its potent perimeter shooting, proved particularly effective against Fremd.

Junior guard Caroline Flynn led the way with 15 points, while junior guards Olivia Barsch and Lucy Cosme chipped in with 12 each. Despite junior forward Lily Porter's early injury, which forced her team to scramble and adjust, the RedHawks' cohesion and teamwork ultimately proved decisive.

"We all knew we needed to step up because she was out," Flynn said. "We all just put in a little extra effort to make sure we could still pull out the win without Porter." Marist's resilience in the face of adversity is a testament to their well-drilled team ethic, which has been honed through a competitive schedule that includes top-tier opponents.

In a thrilling fourth quarter, Fremd staged a late comeback, cutting Marist's lead to eight points. However, the RedHawks regrouped and closed out the game with clutch free throws. Coach Renee Chimino praised her team's mental toughness: "Mentally, you have to prepare yourself for all of the hardships that's going to happen during the game... It prepares us for teams like Fremd."

Ultimately, Marist's collective effort proved too much for Fremd to overcome, securing a hard-fought victory that will propel them forward in their quest for a top-tier finish. As Cosme noted, "We depend on each other" – a mantra that has served the RedHawks well this season and will undoubtedly carry them through the remainder of their campaign.

I'm not sure about all these new-age basketball teams πŸ€”. They're always talking about 'team ethic' and 'mental toughness', but at the end of the day, it's just a game ⚽️. I mean, sure, Marist RedHawks seem like a well-oiled machine, but let's not forget they've played some pretty weak opponents this season πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I'd love to see them take on some actual top-tier teams and see how they stack up πŸ”₯. And what's with all the emphasis on 'clutch free throws' πŸ™„? It's just a few seconds of free throw shooting, not rocket science πŸ’‘. Anyway, congrats to Marist RedHawks for their win, I guess πŸ‘.

the way marist redhawks played against fremd was so clutch 😊. i love how they didn't give up even when lily porter got hurt, everyone just stepped it up and helped each other out. coach chimino's right on point about mental toughness, it's amazing how a team can come together like that 🀝. and olivia cosme's goal to beat fremd in the summer is so cool, shows they've been working hard all season πŸ‘

I'm lovin' how Marist RedHawks is bringin' the heat 🀩! They're really showin' off their skills against top-tier teams, and it's awesome to see 'em bounce back from tough losses earlier in the season. Their spread offense is lookin' fierce, and those clutch free throws at the end? πŸ’₯ Perfection! It's clear they've got a solid team dynamic goin' on, with everyone stepin' up when it counts. Coach Renee Chimino must be doin' somethin' right πŸ™Œ I'm rootin' for 'em all the way to that top-tier finish! πŸ‘

OMG u guys Marist is on fire rn!! πŸš€πŸ’₯ they proved themselves against elite competition and I'm low-key hyped about it! Fremd was no joke but Marist's spread offense came out on top 😎πŸ”₯ Caroline Flynn was on point with 15 points!!! And that clutch win in the fourth quarter? YESSSSSS 🀩 "We all knew we needed to step up"... I LOVE IT πŸ’• Coach Renee Chimino is the real MVP for praising her team's mental toughness πŸ™Œ Marist RedHawks are gonna CRUSH it this season, mark my words πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ”₯

πŸ€ gotta respect Marist's squad for pullin' off that win against Fremd! πŸ™Œ they showed heart, grit & teamwork when it mattered most πŸ˜… coach Chimino's got 'em mentally tough, but also let 'em be themselves on the court πŸ‘ what's crazy is how much pressure they were under after that summer loss 🀯 still, they found a way to bounce back & now they're all about dependin' on each other πŸ’ͺ gotta keep watchin' these RedHawks - they might just make some noise in the playoffs πŸ”₯

OMG I'm loving the Marist RedHawks' spirit right now! 🀩 They've been having an up-and-down season, but they really pulled it off against Fremd. I mean, that spread offense is straight fire πŸ”₯! Caroline Flynn led the charge with 15 points and Olivia Barsch and Lucy Cosme were on point too. The fact that they adjusted their game plan without Lily Porter's injury shows how well-drilled this team is 🀝. Coach Renee Chimino is all about mental toughness, but it's clear these girls are all about supporting each other πŸ’•. They really do depend on each other, and that's what makes them so formidable. Now they've got a top-tier finish within reach... let's see how it plays out! 🀞

I mean, I'm not gonna lie, Marist's win was a big deal, especially since they beat Fremd in the summer too πŸ€”. But let me ask you, is a single victory against an elite team really proof of their worth? I don't think so πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. They got lucky, plain and simple. That injury to Lily Porter was a major blow, but somehow they managed to pull off the win without her πŸ’ͺ. It's like they say, "you can't win 'em all," but can you really say they won this one fair and square? πŸ€”

omg what a game!!! marist is seriously proving themselves against all these elite teams 🀯 i mean, 59-47 is no joke! they played like a cohesive unit even w/o lily porters injury πŸ’ͺ coach chimino is totally right about mental toughness - it's not just about individual skill but team effort too 😊 and that spread offense of theirs? fire πŸ”₯ can't wait to see what the rest of their season holds πŸŽ‰
