Massive pothole in Kashmere Gardens caused scooter crash that man says left him with major injuries

A Pothole in Kashmere Gardens Leaves Motorized Scooter Rider with Life-Altering Injuries

In a shocking incident, a severe pothole on East Lockwood Street in the Kashmere Gardens neighborhood of Houston has left a motorized scooter rider with debilitating injuries. Joe Lambert, 35, recounted his harrowing experience after falling into a ditch caused by the massive crater.

"I was leaving the store on my scooter, had my head turned, and before I could turn around, I hit the pothole," Lambert said. "I ended up in a ditch, with a lacerated jaw, four teeth knocked out of my mouth, and my lip sewn back together."

The accident has prompted Lambert to file a 311 request for the street's repair. To his relief, the issue was addressed promptly, but he expressed concerns that other potholes on the same street remain unchecked.

"We put in some rocks because someone came through and hit their transmission, knocking all the oil out of the oil pan," Lambert explained. "There are still several holes that worry me."

Lambert's harrowing experience has sparked outrage among his neighbors, who have been dealing with frequent pothole problems on the street. While the Public Works department responded quickly to address some of the issues, many residents still yearn for a full repaving of the street.

"It was great to see that they took care of those immediate repairs," said neighbor Steven Tezeno. "We're glad you came out to support us. We're happy about it."

However, Lambert's accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by these potholes, and neighbors hope that this incident will prompt city officials to prioritize repaving the entire street in the near future.

ABC13 is continuing to follow up on this story and will provide updates when more information becomes available.

omg gotta say i'm super frustrated with our city's infrastructure ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ’” how many times do we need to see someone get hurt because of a pothole before we take action?! it's not like this is some isolated incident, people are getting seriously injured on these streets every month. and the fact that there's still rocks being thrown out as a solution ๐Ÿ™„? come on! can't they just pave the street already?! I'm so glad Joe got support from his neighbors but at what cost?! he's lucky to be alive ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ™ and we need to demand better from our city leaders. 311 requests are a good start but it's time for concrete action ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ’ช

I mean come on... 35 years old and still riding a scooter? ๐Ÿคฏ shouldn't he be retired by now with all the money he's saved from not buying cars? ๐Ÿ˜‚ but seriously, what's up with these potholes?! They're like landmines just waiting to maim someone. I'm all for fixing them ASAP, but why did it take this dude almost losing his jaw to get anyone's attention? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿค” I'm telling you, it's not a coincidence that Joe Lambert got those life-altering injuries from just one pothole... think about it, what if there are other hazards on that street that we don't know about yet? ๐Ÿšง I mean, have they checked for any potential structural damage to the road or nearby buildings? And yeah, I'm sure the city is trying to fix these potholes, but it's all just a distraction from the real issues... like, what's going on with the oil leaks and transmission problems that happened recently? It's almost like they're trying to cover something up... ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

omg what a terrifying experience for joe lambert ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ฑ those potholes are so reckless! u can't even drive or ride without worrying about getting hurt lol. i'm not surprised the street got neglected for so long, but it's crazy how one accident can make ppl wake up to the issue ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ก hope the city officials take notice and fix that street ASAP ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

I'm literally shook ๐Ÿ˜ฑ about this motorized scooter rider's accident in Kashmere Gardens ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŒณ! I mean, can you even imagine hitting a pothole that bad? ๐Ÿคฏ Four teeth knocked out and a lacerated jaw... no wonder he's traumatized ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. The thing is, like, the city was super quick to fix it after he filed a 311 request ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ, but what about all those other potholes still lingering around? ๐ŸŒ€ It's just not right ๐Ÿ’”. I'm totally rooting for Joe Lambert ๐Ÿ‘Š and hoping that this incident will push the city to give that street some much-needed TLC โค๏ธ.

I feel so bad for Joe, he could've been killed ๐Ÿค•! Those potholes are super scary and it's amazing that his neighbor Steven helped with the repairs quickly. But I don't get why they didn't do a full job on the street? It's not fair to leave people like Joe who got hurt because of them ๐Ÿšง. We need better roads, especially for us motorized scooter riders ๐Ÿ˜ฌ!

omg I feel so bad for joe lambert ๐Ÿค•, 4 teeth knocked out? that's crazy!!! ๐Ÿคฏ and yeah, it's wild how some streets in houston are still dealing with potholes like they're nobody's business ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿ’ธ my friend's cousin lives in kashmere gardens and they've been complaining about the same thing for ages ๐Ÿ˜ฉ anyway, i hope joe gets the help he needs and those city officials get their act together to fix that street ASAP ๐Ÿ’ช

Ugh, can you believe that? ๐Ÿคฏ Someone gets hurt really badly from a pothole and now everyone's all like "oh no, we need to fix this ASAP" ๐Ÿ˜… I mean, I'm not saying the city shouldn't, but it's just another example of how accidents happen when we're all driving around on these roads. The fact that Joe Lambert is worried about other potholes still being there after they fixed one issue kinda sucks, though ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ But at least the Public Works department stepped up and took care of it quickly! ๐Ÿ‘ That's gotta count for something ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Poor Joe's day just got ruined by a giant crater ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ, who knew potholes could be so... life-altering? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Like, I'm glad he's safe and all but seriously, can't the city do some repaving around here? It's not like it's rocket science, or in this case, scooter-science ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ. And btw, nice job to Steven for being a good neighbor and trying to stay positive ๐Ÿค—... meanwhile, Lambert's still dealing with the aftermath, which is pretty rough ๐Ÿ˜”.
