NASA stage show explores "outer" outer space with Henson's Fraggles

NASA has joined forces with the Jim Henson Company to bring its latest space exploration plans to life in a unique stage show called "Fraggle Rock: A Space-y Adventure". The show, which is currently playing at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida, stars the beloved Muppets as they discover outer (outer) space for the first time.

The story follows Gobo, Red, and Uncle Traveling Matt as they explore the Moon through a "Fraggle hole" that leads them to NASA's Exploration Ground Systems team. The team explains how their work is enabling astronaut missions to the lunar surface, using a postcard with a picture of a "cookie" to help illustrate their points.

One of the most interesting aspects of the show is how it has brought together two seemingly unrelated worlds: Fraggles and outer space. According to John Tartaglia, the director, writer, and choreographer behind the show, this connection was always meant to be. "Our two worlds that on paper wouldn’t seem connected, made a lot of sense to connect," he said.

To bridge the gap between these two realities, the team came up with creative solutions. For example, when scaling up the Fraggles to costume size, another character had to become puppet-size to remain in scale. This allowed for full-body "walk-around" characters to dance and move without being limited by traditional puppetry.

Tartaglia's goal was to use Uncle Traveling Matt as a bridge between the audience and NASA's exploration goals. The show's central character is perfect for this purpose, as he is oblivious and thinks he knows everything, but really doesn't. This makes him a great character to teach the audience about awesome facts and figures about space.

Overall, "Fraggle Rock: A Space-y Adventure" is a fun and engaging way to introduce people of all ages to NASA's deep space exploration plans. By bringing together two seemingly unrelated worlds, the show showcases the importance of exploring new worlds, making discoveries, and working together to learn more about each other.

πŸ€” I think it's absolutely brilliant that NASA has collaborated with the Jim Henson Company to create a unique stage show that brings space exploration to life in an engaging way! The idea of scaling up the Fraggles to costume size while keeping another character puppet-sized is pure genius πŸ“š. It highlights the creativity and resourcefulness required to bridge seemingly unrelated worlds, which aligns perfectly with NASA's mission of pushing boundaries and exploring new frontiers 🌠. The show's central character, Uncle Traveling Matt, serves as a great ambassador for NASA's exploration goals, making complex concepts accessible and fun for audiences of all ages πŸ‘©β€πŸš€. Overall, this partnership is a testament to the power of interdisciplinary collaboration and creative problem-solving πŸ’‘.

omg i love this idea!!! πŸš€πŸ‘ it's so cool that NASA is teaming up with the Jim Henson Company to make space exploration fun for everyone! Fraggle Rock characters in space would be hilarious and i'm sure kids and adults alike will have a blast watching this show. using Uncle Traveling Matt as a bridge between the audience and NASA's goals is pure genius πŸ€“ and it's awesome that they came up with creative solutions to make it work. i just wish we could see more shows like this, merging art and science in such a fun way πŸŽ¨πŸš€

OMG you guys I just saw this show and its SO COOL!!! 🀩 I love how they brought Fraggles and space together it makes so much sense! The way they made Uncle Traveling Matt the perfect bridge for NASA's exploration goals is genius πŸ™Œ I was literally laughing and learning at the same time. The special effects are insane too especially when the puppets came to life on stage πŸ˜²πŸ‘ I think its amazing that this show can make space exploration fun and accessible for everyone no matter age. It just goes to show how creativity & innovation can come together to achieve something truly awesome 🌟

I gotta say, I'm a bit skeptical about this whole "Fraggle Rock: A Space-y Adventure" thing πŸ€”. Don't get me wrong, it sounds like a blast for kids (and let's be real, nostalgic adults too 😊) but is it really necessary to bring together two seemingly unrelated worlds? Can't we just stick to the space exploration itself and leave out the Muppet characters? I mean, I love Kermit and co. as much as the next person, but do we need them to teach us about black holes and rocket science? πŸš€

I gotta say, I'm just not sold on this "Fraggle Rock: A Space-y Adventure" thing... πŸ€” I mean, how many times can we use the same old Muppets formula? It's like they're trying to be cool again by merging space exploration with something that's already 80s nostalgia. The whole show seems like a bunch of creative workarounds to make it work... like scaling down characters and using postcards to explain complex stuff. πŸ“¦ And what's up with the whole "Fraggle hole" concept? Is NASA really going to build a portal to space that looks like a giant hole in the ground? πŸš€ It just seems like a bunch of gimmicks to me... πŸ‘Ž

omg can u believe nasa is teaming up with jim henson co to make a stage show abt fraggles in space? 🀯 i mean, it's so cool that they're using the muppets to teach people about space exploration! i remember when i was like 5 and watching sesame street, i thought it was so awesome when big bird went to outer space. lol now it seems like a totally normal thing to do. anyway, the show sounds super fun and interactive - can't wait to check it out when i'm back in florida πŸš€

omg this sounds like so much fun!!! i love how they brought together fraggle rock and nasa - its like the best thing ever! using uncle traveling matt as a bridge between the audience and nasa's goals is pure genius 🀩 i cant wait to see it live at the kennedy space center visitor complex in florida! this show is going to make space exploration so cool and accessible for everyone, especially kids! πŸš€πŸ’«

I'm totally stoked πŸš€πŸ’« about this new stage show! Who knew Fraggles could go to space? πŸ€” It's so cool how NASA and Jim Henson Company joined forces to bring their ideas together. The Muppets are always so fun, but now they're exploring outer space for the first time and it's amazing to see. I love how Uncle Traveling Matt is like a bridge between the audience and NASA's goals - he's so clueless but teaches us tons of cool facts about space! πŸ€“πŸ‘½ The show's creators did an awesome job coming up with creative solutions to make Fraggles fit into space suits. It's all about exploring new worlds, making discoveries, and working together... it's like they say: #FraggleRockMeetsSpace #ExploreTheUniverse #NASAmeetsMuppets

Wow πŸš€πŸ‘½! Who would've thought that Fraggle Rock and outer space could come together like this? Interesting how they scaled up the Fraggles to costume size and had another character become puppet-size to keep things in scale. The show's use of Uncle Traveling Matt as a bridge between NASA and the audience is pure genius πŸ€“. It's awesome that kids (and adults too!) can learn about space exploration in such an entertaining way πŸš€πŸŽ‰

πŸš€πŸ€” I don't know why they're wasting their time and money on this Fraggle Rock thing... NASA's got real problems to solve like funding for actual space research and not just some flashy stage show. And what's with the cookie explanation? πŸͺ Come on, it's a postcard, people! They can do better than that. But I guess it's kinda cool how they're making space exploration fun for kids... but at the same time, isn't that just a distraction from the real issues? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
