NYPD shoots and injures man with knife inside Queens home, officials say

"Man with Knife Threatened NYPD Officers in Queens Home, Police Say He Was Shot"

A 22-year-old man wielding a large kitchen knife was shot by the NYPD during an encounter at his home in Briarwood, Queens, Monday morning. The incident began when officers responded to a 911 call from a family member who reported seeing the man throwing glass inside the residence on Parsons Boulevard.

According to Assistant Chief Christopher McIntosh of the Queens Borough South command, the male individual retrieved the knife upon seeing the officers and attempted to advance towards them. Despite repeated commands to drop the knife, he continued to move aggressively. A family member tried to restrain him but was unsuccessful.

To de-escalate the situation, police retreated from the area, attempting to isolate the man by shutting the glass door leading to the living room. However, when the individual pushed through the door, one officer fired several shots, striking the man in the body. He was subsequently taken to Jamaica Hospital and is currently stable after undergoing surgery.

The NYPD recovered a kitchen knife at the scene, which was recorded on body-worn cameras. The department's Force Investigation Division is reviewing the incident, although the individual involved has not yet been publicly identified. Mayor Zohran Mamdani acknowledged that the NYPD is assessing the situation, vowing to keep New Yorkers informed as more information becomes available.

The area was cordoned off by police, who asked residents and visitors to avoid the location due to potential traffic disruptions. As this story continues to unfold, officials are urging caution and transparency regarding the incident.

This whole thing smells like a case of overreaction ๐Ÿค”. I mean, did those officers really have no choice but to shoot? Wasn't there a way to defuse the situation without resorting to force? It's always about safety, but is it worth putting an entire community on high alert because of one guy with a knife? ๐Ÿšจ

And what's with the body-worn cameras? Are we really relying on those to provide objective footage? I'm not saying they're bad, but can't we have a more nuanced discussion about police conduct and accountability? It feels like we're just scratching the surface here... ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿค• man just stabbed 1 person and almost hurt his cop friends, but luckily he got shot first... that was quick thinking by the officer ๐Ÿ™. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it, how did this situation escalate so fast? ๐Ÿคฏ a family member even tried to intervene and fail ๐Ÿ˜”. I get that police are trained for these situations, but you always wonder if there's more to the story... maybe the guy wasn't acting crazy before they showed up? ๐Ÿค” anyway, glad he's stable now ๐Ÿ’• and at least the officer followed procedure, right ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

Ugh, my heart is still racing thinking about this crazy situation ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, what if that guy hadn't gotten shot? Would the police have been able to subdue him without hurting him? It's a total mess ๐Ÿค”. And can we talk about how they recorded the whole thing on body-worn cameras?! That's gotta be super helpful for the investigation... but also kinda scary to think about ๐Ÿ˜ณ. The NYPD is being pretty transparent, which is great, but I hope they get all the facts out there soon โฑ๏ธ. It's just so frustrating when these situations happen ๐Ÿค•.

Ugh, can you believe how they structured that article? It's like, all over the place ๐Ÿคฏ. First, it jumps straight into the details of the actual encounter. I mean, I get it, we want to know what happened. But then, suddenly, it's "The department's Force Investigation Division is reviewing the incident..." and just disappears on us ๐Ÿ˜’. It's like, they're hiding something? And don't even get me started on the formatting of the dates ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. The 911 call was Monday morning... but which Monday? Do we need to know the exact date? Can't they just give us a range or something? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ It's all so frustrating!

Omg, that's so scary ๐Ÿ˜ฑ... I can imagine how terrifying it must've been for those officers responding to the call. They put their lives on hold just to help someone in need, and then they get met with aggression like that... ๐Ÿค• It's hard to even process what happened. The fact that the man was able to threaten them with a knife is just heartbreaking ๐Ÿ˜”. I hope the officer who fired shots didn't have any regrets or doubts about making that split-second decision ๐Ÿ’”. And poor family member who tried to restrain him, they must be in shock right now ๐Ÿคฏ. This whole situation is just really upsetting and I can only imagine how exhausting it must be for them...

man... another crazy situation like this is just not what we need in our city ๐Ÿคฏ. i mean, can't people just talk it out or something? these police officers have enough on their plate already, dealing with all sorts of crazy stuff every day. and that knife... yeah, that's just a recipe for disaster ๐Ÿšซ. i hope the guy is gonna be alright, but the fact that he had to resort to that kinda violence in his own home is just heartbreaking ๐Ÿ˜”. and now we gotta wait for the investigation to figure out what happened... it's always somethin' ๐Ÿ’ฅ

man... gotta think about the officer's safety first, you know? they're just doing their job, trying to protect everyone. but at the same time, i feel bad for the guy who was throwing glass - it sounds like he must've been having a mental health crisis or something ๐Ÿค•. and now his life is in danger, which is just crazy. anyway, gotta give props to the officer who stepped up and saved that person's life ๐Ÿ’ช. can't say too much about what happened next without knowing all the details, but hopefully everyone involved is okay... fingers crossed ๐Ÿ˜Š.

๐Ÿš” this is just another crazy situation where someone gets mental health help instead of the authorities stepping in to defuse the situation first? i mean dont get me wrong officers do have a right to feel safe but what was going thru that dudes head? ๐Ÿคฏ we need to address the real issues here not just shoot people who are already unstable ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ‘Ž

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole situation ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, imagine being in your own home, feeling safe and comfortable, and then suddenly having a stranger show up with a knife, threatening two officers who just showed up at your doorstep? It's just crazy!

And what really got me is the part where the family member tries to restrain him, but it doesn't work. I can only imagine how scary that must have been for everyone involved. I'm glad the police had body-worn cameras recording everything because that's gotta be super important in cases like this.

I do hope the guy who was shot makes a full recovery ๐Ÿคž. It's just another example of how volatile situations can escalate quickly, and how important it is to prioritize de-escalation techniques and communication skills for law enforcement officers.

The fact that the police department is reviewing the incident and trying to be transparent about what happened is really reassuring. And I'm glad Mayor Mamdani is keeping everyone informed โ€“ sometimes, as much info as possible is just what we need to feel like we're in the loop.

Overall, this whole thing just feels like a really complicated and unpredictable mess ๐Ÿคฏ. My guess is that there's still more to come out about it as time goes on...

๐Ÿค• I mean, what's up with these encounters between cops and people getting all crazy? Like, you see a 22-year-old dude wielding a knife and threatening officers... that's already a huge red flag. And then they try to de-escalate by retreating, which is basically just giving the guy an open lane to keep going... it's like, what were they thinking?

And now we're left wondering if the guy was mentally unstable or just having a bad day? The fact that there's no ID on him yet says a lot. It's not like this is the first time something like this has happened in Queens, and I'm sure the community is still reeling from it.

The more I think about it, the more I realize how rare it is for these situations to be resolved without someone getting hurt. Like, what's the protocol here? Were they following procedure or was there just a lot of chaos on the scene? The fact that the body cam footage exists at least makes things slightly less mysterious... but still, so much uncertainty. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

๐Ÿ˜’ This is just another example of how our society is going crazy! A 22-year-old man with a kitchen knife threatening police officers in their own home? It's like something out of a movie ๐ŸŽฅ. But for real, what's going on here? Is this a cry for help or just a cry for attention? The fact that he was able to get past the barricaded glass door and push through is super concerning... I hope our police department has its act together, but also, can't we do more to prevent these situations from happening in the first place?! ๐Ÿ’ก It's not like this guy was just a random psychopath, there must be something going on here that we're not seeing ๐Ÿค”. We need to have an honest conversation about mental health and why some people are pushed over the edge ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ.

OMG u can't even believe wot happened in Queens yesterday ๐Ÿคฏ 22 yr old guy had a kitchen knife & was throwin glass all over the place & then he pulls out the knife & tries 2 stab some NYPD officers ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ like what is wrong w/ dis dude!! 1st off, why did he even have a knife in the first place?! Was he just hangin around w/ some crazy people or somethin?!

& then they try 2 calm him down & de-escalate the situation but noooo he's all like "I'm gonna stab u" ๐Ÿ˜ค And I feel 4 the officers, I really do. They were just tryna do their job & help out a family in need. It's crazy how quickly things can turn from a normal emergency call 2 a deadly situation ๐Ÿ’”

It's good that they got him stable after surgery tho ๐Ÿ™. At least he's not dead or anything ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ But still, it's just so...random ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Why would someone do such a thing?! U think maybe mental health issues or somethin? ๐Ÿค”

Man, I'm telling you, it's crazy how these tech advancements aren't helping us in everyday situations like this ๐Ÿคฏ. Instead of using body-worn cameras with AI-powered facial recognition or something, we're still relying on good old-fashioned shooting to resolve conflicts. It's just not the answer, you know? ๐Ÿ’” I mean, have you seen those videos of police shootings? They're always so... unclear. Can't we find a way to de-escalate situations without resorting to violence? And what about that family member who tried to restrain the guy? Shouldn't they be getting some kinda training or support instead of just being left out in the cold? ๐Ÿค” This whole thing just feels like a missed opportunity for innovation and progress. ๐Ÿ˜

man that's crazy ๐Ÿ˜ฑ imagine being in someone's home and trying to get them to calm down with a knife ๐Ÿคฏ and then having the police shoot him ๐Ÿ’ฅ like what was he thinking? I feel bad for the officers involved though, they must have felt so scared and trapped ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’” and the fact that the guy was aggressive and refused to drop the knife makes it even more terrifying. but at the same time, you gotta wonder if there were other options ๐Ÿค” like maybe a way to defuse the situation without resorting to violence ๐Ÿ’ฌ did they really have no other choice?
