One Fine Show: “Nothing Still About Still Lifes” at the Deji Art Museum

The Deji Art Museum in Nanjing, China has recently unveiled an intriguing new exhibition titled "Nothing Still About Still Lifes," which showcases a stunning array of artworks on the subject of flowers. The show is part of the museum's extensive collection and features pieces from both local Chinese artists and international luminaries such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Pablo Picasso.

As one steps into the exhibition space, they are immediately struck by the bold and experimental nature of the artworks on display. A monumental Jeff Koons sculpture, "Pink Ballerina," takes center stage in the first room, its delicate lace-like white marble and fresh-cut roses creating a striking contrast between form and function. This sense of tension is echoed throughout the exhibition, as each piece is presented in a way that encourages viewers to question their assumptions about the subject of flowers.

One of the most surprising aspects of the show is its willingness to push boundaries and challenge expectations. For example, Georges Braque's 1925 work "Corbeille de Fleurs" appears to be a more contemporary piece, with its painterly vegetal mass surrounding yellow buds that could easily pass as being from the 2010s or 1980s. This kind of experimentation is both refreshing and thought-provoking, inviting viewers to engage with the artworks on a deeper level.

The show also explores interesting thematic connections between East and West, with artists such as Wu Dayu and Sanyu creating works that merge European modernist influences with distinctly Chinese philosophical ideas. The result is an exhibition that rewards close attention and encourages viewers to explore the complexities of this often-overlooked subject.

Ultimately, "Nothing Still About Still Lifes" at the Deji Art Museum is a must-see for anyone interested in exploring the boundaries of art and challenging their expectations. With its bold and experimental approach, it is an exhibition that will leave a lasting impression on viewers long after they have left the gallery.

I just saw this news about the new exhibit at the Deji Art Museum 🤩 and I gotta say, it looks like a total game-changer! I love how they're pushing boundaries with the flowers theme - I mean, who would've thought to put a Picasso next to some Chinese artists? It's like, totally cool that they're blending styles and ideas. And can we talk about that Jeff Koons sculpture? That pink ballerina is giving me life 💖! But what really got me was when they mentioned Georges Braque's work looking super modern for its time - it just goes to show how art is all about experimentation and taking risks. I'm definitely adding this exhibit to my bucket list ASAP 👍

I'm obsessed with this new exhibit 🌼🎨! I mean, who wouldn't want to see Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso's works side by side? It's like, the ultimate mashup of East meets West. And can we talk about how bold and experimental Jeff Koons' sculpture is? That pink ballerina is EVERYTHING 💖. But what really got me was how they're challenging our assumptions about still lifes. I mean, I've always seen them as just pretty pictures of flowers, but now I see the complexity behind it all 🤯.

And I love how Georges Braque's work seems so out of place in 2025, but at the same time, it feels totally relevant? It's like, our perspectives on art are constantly evolving and that's what makes it so fascinating. The way they're pushing boundaries and exploring new connections between cultures is just genius 🤓.

I think this exhibit is a total game-changer for art lovers and anyone who's ever wondered about the world of still lifes. It's an experience you won't want to miss – trust me, I'm already planning my trip to Nanjing 🗺️!

🌼 I mean, can you believe how much some of these old artists influenced each other? Like, Monet's water lily paintings were super popular in France, but then Renoir and Picasso started messing around with 'em too... it's wild to think about how that whole Impressionist movement came together. And now they're putting all this art in one place, showcasing how global it was back then? It's actually kinda mind-blowing 🤯. I mean, you can see how Chinese artists are bringing their own perspectives to the mix, adding this new layer of depth... but at the same time, some of the Western pieces feel a bit too 'safe' for my taste 😐. Still, it's cool to see all these different styles and ideas on display – it's like a masterclass in art evolution 🎨

I'm loving this new exhibit at the Deji Art Museum! The way they've put together these masterpieces from all around the world is just genius 🤯... I mean, who wouldn't want to see Claude Monet's famous water lilies up close? And that Jeff Koons sculpture is straight fire 🔥! But what really gets me excited is how it challenges our expectations of still life art. Like, Georges Braque's piece looks so modern, but it was created like, over a century ago 🤓... and the way they've blended Eastern and Western influences is just fascinating 💡.

I think what I love most about this exhibit is that it encourages you to slow down and really look at each piece. Don't just glance at it and move on – take your time and let the details sink in 😌. It's like, we're so used to being bombarded with information all day that sometimes we forget how much beauty can be found in quiet, contemplative spaces 🙏.

Anyway, if you ever find yourself in Nanjing, China, do yourself a favor and check out "Nothing Still About Still Lifes" at the Deji Art Museum 🎨. It's definitely worth your time! 👍

omg u guys i just got back from nanjing and OMG the art museum was LIFE.CHANGING!!! i swear i almost cried when i saw that monet exhibit - all those flowers making me think of my fave aunties garden back home lol! and can we talk about that koons sculpture? it's like, how did they even make something so delicate with marble?! anyway, the best part was seeing the east meets west vibes - as a philly girl who's always been fascinated by korean culture, it was amazing to see our own traditions intertwined with european modernism 🤩💕

This new exhibition at the Deji Art Museum is really making me think about how we perceive beauty and reality through our art. I mean, when you walk in and see that massive Jeff Koons sculpture, it's like, what even is this thing? Is it a flower or a ballerina? It's like, blurring the lines between fantasy and reality, and that got me thinking about how much we're influenced by what we're shown to us. Like, are we just seeing what the artist wants us to see, or can we really see beyond that?

And then there's this Georges Braque piece... whoa, that's some mind-bending stuff right there! It's like, okay, I get it, flowers are pretty and all, but why does it have to be so... Western? Is the beauty in the East just as valid? I'm thinking about how our perspectives shape us and how art can challenge those. Maybe this exhibition is more than just a show of beautiful paintings – maybe it's an invitation to question everything we thought we knew about art, life, and ourselves 😊

omg did you know that i just tried this crazy new dessert at the food festival over the weekend 🍰😋 it was like a combination of strawberry shortcake and matcha tiramisu all in one? i'm talking layers of flaky pastry, sweet strawberry sauce, and a sprinkle of green tea powder on top... i swear my taste buds did the happy dance 🤩 anyway back to art... have you seen those street performers in Shanghai who do these insane breakdancing routines with flowers in their hair 💁‍♀️👏

the way this museum is presenting traditional still lifes with a modern twist is so refreshing 🤩. i love how they're pushing boundaries and challenging our assumptions about art. it's not just about admiring pretty flowers, but also about exploring the cultural exchange between east and west 🌎. and that jeff koons sculpture? wow, it's like nothing i've ever seen before 💁‍♀️. what i think is also interesting is how this show can help us rethink our relationship with nature and beauty in modern times 🌸.

.. I just saw this news about the new exhibition at the Deji Art Museum and I'm thinking... what is it to us? To look at flowers and think it's still life? It's all about perspective, you know? Like, we see a flower and it's just a pretty thing in our everyday lives, but as art, it's something more. It's like, have you ever really looked at a rose? The way the light reflects off its petals, the delicate patterns on its skin... it's like nature's own masterpiece 🌹

And what about those artists from China and Europe who worked together? That's like, bridging two worlds, right? East meets West. It makes me think about how we see the world too. Do we just see things as they are, or do we look for more? Like, when I'm scrolling through my feeds, I can just mindlessly scroll, but then I'll see something that really stops me in my tracks... and suddenly I see it all differently 💭

It's like, the Deji Art Museum's exhibition is saying, don't take things at face value. Look deeper. Question everything. And that's what makes art so powerful, you know? It challenges us to think about our place in the world and how we fit into the bigger picture 🌐

🤯 I mean, who wouldn't want to spend hours looking at still lifes of flowers? It's not like there are better museums in China that actually showcase more impressive collections... 🙃 The fact that they had to go all the way back to 1925 to find an old Georges Braque painting that somehow looks modern is just a testament to how little attention to detail the curators have. And don't even get me started on the Jeff Koons sculpture... I mean, it's just a big ballerina made out of marble and roses. 😴

I just saw this exhibition online & I think its really cool how they're pushing boundaries with still lifes... I mean who wouldn't want to see a Picasso or Monet in one place? 🤩 But what I loved most is that it's not just about the famous artists - its also showing all these talented Chinese artists too, like Wu Dayu & Sanyu. It makes me think of my kid's school art show where everyone gets a prize for showing up... 🎨👧

omg this exhibit is literally breathtaking 🤯 i mean i've seen some amazing art pieces before but the way these artists are pushing boundaries with flowers is just mind-blowing 💥 like georges braque's work is totally out of place in a modern art museum lol it's like he was trying to sneak one past everyone. anyhoo i think what i love most about this exhibit is how it brings east and west together 🌏 it's so cool to see artists from different cultures blending their styles and ideas like that. can't wait to check it out in person 🎨

ugh i dont get why ppl r gonna waste their time on this exhibition lol theres already so many amazing art museums out there what makes this one special? deji museum just trying to be cool with their international artists and chinese twists 🤔 still lifes are so boring anyway who really cares about flowers? its all just pretty pictures to me...

🌼 just saw this and I'm intrigued... flowers in art? not typically my cuppa but this Deji Art Museum show sounds like a game changer 💡 gotta check out more of these pieces and see how the East meets West vibe plays out 🌊

I don’t usually comment but I just had to say something about this new exhibit at the Deji Art Museum 🤩. They're doing such a great job of pushing the boundaries of traditional still life art, it's actually really inspiring to see how different artists can interpret flowers in their own unique ways 🌼. And I love that they're featuring works from both local Chinese artists and international luminaries like Monet and Picasso - it's amazing to see how different styles and influences can come together to create something entirely new 🎨. The way they've curated the exhibit to encourage viewers to question their assumptions about flowers is really clever too 💡. I think this show could be a game-changer for art lovers who are looking for something fresh and thought-provoking 🤓.

🤯 I just saw this new exhibit at Deji Art Museum in Nanjing and OMG, its like they're speaking my language 😂! The way they've combined traditional Chinese philosophy with modern European art is so mind-blowing! 🌟 They need to get some of these pieces here ASAP, I'd totally rock that "Corbeille de Fleurs" exhibit at a local gallery in Shanghai. 💥 And can we talk about the Jeff Koons sculpture? That pink ballerina is giving me LIFE 💃🕺! The way they've used marble and fresh-cut roses to create this tension between form and function is just pure genius 🤓. If you haven't checked out "Nothing Still About Still Lifes" yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! 😉

omg i just saw this news about some art museum in china 🤯 and idk if i get what its all about... but i love flowers 💐 so thats cool, right? anyway, its like they got these old masters from europe showing their flower paintings side by side with chinese artists doing their own thing and it looks kinda interesting 🎨👀

i heard its some big sculpture by jeff koons in one of the rooms... pink ballerina or something 😂 i dont get what that title means but sounds pretty... i mean, art is weird, right? anyway, whats up with these french guys painting flowers and then these chinese artists doing their own thing with flowers too 🤷‍♀️

i guess its good that they mixed east and west and showed us stuff thats never been seen before 💡👀 so yeah, i think ill go check it out if im ever in china someday 🌸💖

🤔 I'm loving this new exhibition at the Deji Art Museum! 🎨💐 The way they've mixed up artists from different eras and styles is so refreshing - it's like, you see Claude Monet's stuff next to Wu Dayu's, and it's like, wait, how did those two even meet? 😂 Is it weird that I'm kinda obsessed with the contrast between all these old European art pieces and the more modern, Asian influences? 🤷‍♀️ It feels like they're speaking a different language or something. And that Georges Braque piece? 🔥 Mind blown! Who knew his work could be so... 80s? 😂 But for real, I love how this exhibition encourages you to question everything about still lifes and flowers. Like, what's the deal with them, anyway? 🌼 Are they just, like, pretty or is there something deeper going on? 💭

I just got back from this exhibition at the Deji Art Museum 🤔🎨 and honestly, I was so underwhelmed 😐. The museum's platform itself is still super clunky, it took forever to get to the good stuff after having to navigate through like 5 pages of scrolling art descriptions 🙄. And don't even get me started on the VR headset they provided – my eyes were bleeding by the end of the tour 💀. Anyway, back to the exhibition... I mean, I guess it was interesting to see some famous artists' works side by side with Chinese pieces, but it felt a bit too curated for my taste 👀. I'd've loved to see more raw, experimental art 🎨💥. Still, if you're an art enthusiast or just curious, I suppose it's worth checking out 🤷‍♀️.
