'People can be cruel – I learned that early': US pop star Madison Beer on child fame and fan attacks

Madison Beer on Child Fame and Fan Attacks: A Cautionary Tale of Growing Up Too Fast

As a pop star who burst onto the scene at 13, Madison Beer has spent years navigating the cutthroat music industry. But it wasn't until her early 20s that she learned to separate her public image from her true self.

"People are so quick to be like: 'This is what's wrong with this person,' and attack someone's character," Beer said candidly about the online backlash she faced as a teenager. "I definitely feel protective of younger stars, and I fear for people. I would hope that people are now like, 'Bullying a 15-year-old is unacceptable', whereas when I was 15, that wasn't really a conversation."

Beer's first taste of fame came after Justin Bieber tweeted a link to her YouTube video covering Etta James's "At Last" at just 13 years old. She went on to record tie-in songs for doll brands and collaborated with established teen idols before finally breaking through in her own right.

However, the rapid ascent was not without its costs. Beer felt unsupported by her label and management team, who she claims "stole years of my childhood that I'll never get back." The experience left her feeling lost and alone, but it also taught her a valuable lesson about setting boundaries and prioritizing her mental health.

" Holding animosity, hatred, and negativity towards things like that [doesn't] do me any good," Beer said. "I've completely let go of it, and I don't care. That's not my issue, not my circus."

In recent years, Beer has made headlines for releasing a memoir, "The Half of It," which explores her struggles with mental health, body image, and relationships. The book was a cathartic experience for the singer-songwriter, allowing her to confront her demons and share her story with the world.

Beer's new album, Locket, marks a turning point in her career. The record is a raw and intimate exploration of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Beer has said that she wrote the album during a tumultuous relationship, when she was struggling to come to terms with her own emotions.

"Some days I barely respond to my own name," she sings on one track, admitting to feelings of disconnection and isolation. "I only exist in the moments you're talking to me." The lyrics are both deeply personal and universally relatable, offering a glimpse into the complexities of modern love and relationships.

Despite the album's critical acclaim and commercial success, Beer is more focused on the emotional resonance it has for her fans. She wants people to know that she is human, flawed and vulnerable, rather than an idealized image or persona.

"I don't want anybody to go and attack them or rip them apart," Beer said of her ex-partners. "I don't wish ill upon literally anybody." Instead, she hopes that Locket will inspire fans to be more empathetic and understanding towards others.

For Beer, success is no longer about external validation or critical acclaim, but about feeling peace and happiness on her own terms. As she embarks on a new chapter in her career, she is committed to staying true to herself, even when the world around her gets loud and chaotic.

I can so relate to Madison Beer's story 🤗🌟. It's crazy how fast we think we're growing up, but really we're just trying to figure out who we are and where we fit in. I mean, it's not easy being in the public eye, especially when you're still figuring yourself out 😩. But it's awesome that she's speaking out about her experiences and using them as a lesson to be more mindful of how others feel 🤝.

It's so important for us, especially the young ones, to remember that we don't have to put up with bullying or negativity from anyone 🚫. We need to prioritize our own mental health and well-being, just like Madison is doing 💆‍♀️. And I love how she's focusing on being authentic and vulnerable in her music - it's so refreshing to see someone being true to themselves 💖.

I feel so bad for Madison Beer going through all that stuff at such a young age 🤕 She was literally just 13 when she first started getting famous and people were already attacking her online... it's crazy to think about how different things are now 😒 I mean, we're supposed to be more empathetic towards younger stars now, but like Beer said, back then that wasn't really a conversation 🤷‍♀️ It's wild to see how far she's come and how much of herself she's sharing with her fans through her music and writing... it's actually really inspiring 💖 She's not trying to be this perfect image anymore, just a real person who's vulnerable and imperfect 🌟 And honestly, I think that's what makes Locket so special - it's like we're getting a glimpse into her actual feelings and emotions, you know? 🎶

I feel for Madison Beer man 🤕 she was so young and thrust into this crazy industry, it's no wonder she had a rough time growing up 🙅‍♂️. I'm glad she's speaking out about the importance of mental health and setting boundaries though 💪. It's wild how much pressure there is to be perfect on social media, but I think we can all learn from her story 😔. She's not trying to be a role model or anything, she just wants to make music that's real and honest 💕. And honestly, who wouldn't want to listen to an album about heartbreak and self-discovery? 🎶 It's a reminder that it's okay to not have all the answers and that we're all in this together 🤗.

🤯 I'm literally shook by Madison Beer's story 🙈 she was just 13 when she became famous and had to navigate the cutthroat music industry all alone 🌪️ no wonder she felt lost and alone for years 🤕 it's like, we need to teach our kids about boundaries and mental health from a young age 💁‍♀️ especially in this day and age where social media can be toxic 🔥

I love how Madison is speaking out against bullying and attacking people's characters 💪 she's saying that it's not okay to shame or belittle others, especially when they're just trying to live their lives 🙏 and I'm also so proud of her for releasing a book about her struggles with mental health 📚 it takes courage to share your story and open up like that 💕

🤔 I think it's so important for people like Madison Beer who came into the spotlight at such a young age to share their stories about how they coped with the pressure and attention. It's not always easy to navigate the online world, especially when you're still figuring out who you are as a person 🌟. But I also think it's crazy that people are more quick to judge someone like Madison now, because of what happened in the past 🙄. Like, shouldn't we all be able to learn from our mistakes and grow together? It's refreshing to see Madison talking about how she had to prioritize her mental health and set boundaries - we should all take a page out of her book 💖. And I love that her new album is so raw and honest, it feels like a breath of fresh air 🎶.

🤔 just saw this article about Madison Beer and I'm like, yeah, this makes total sense 🤷‍♀️ she was thrust into the spotlight at 13 and had to navigate so much pressure from a young age 🚨 it's wild that people think bullying a 15-year-old is okay? 😲 like what even is wrong with people these days? 🙄 Beer's right though, holding onto anger and negativity just makes life harder 💔 it's great that she's speaking out about her experiences and using her platform to spread love and positivity ❤️ Locket sounds like a super emotional album 🎶 can't wait to give it a listen 🎧

OMG u guys i'm literally so done with this industry & the way it treats young talent!!! 🤯 13 is SO young 2 b thrust into the spotlight like that & Madison Beer's story is EVERYTHING 😭 She deserves a million claps for speaking out about the mental health struggles she faced & the bullying she endured online. Like, can't we just be more empathetic towards each other?! 🤗 I think her new album Locket is gonna be LIFE.CHANGING 💖 The way she's raw & honest about her emotions is gonna resonate w/ so many people 💕 We need more artists who are willing to share their stories & vulnerability, it's like, the most beautiful thing 😊

💁‍♀️ Madison Beer's story is like, super relatable, you know? Like, we've all been there - feeling like our public image isn't always gonna be the same as who we really are. I mean, I was obsessed with her when she first came out, but now I can see why she would feel lost and alone. The music industry is crazy, right? It's like, you're just trying to figure yourself out while everyone else is trying to make money off of your "brand". But Beer's new album Locket is like, the real deal - it's so honest and vulnerable, I'm literally crying just reading about it 🤯. The message she's spreading is all about self-love and acceptance, and that's something we could all use a little more of, imo 💖

just read this article about madison beer 🙅‍♀️... she's been through so much already and now she's speaking out about how quickly ppl judge & attack others online especially those who r famous or young 🚫. i think it's really brave of her to share her story & be honest about what she went through 🤗. we need more people like her who are willing to speak up & advocate for kindness & understanding 💖

😔 I feel so bad for Madison Beer having to deal with all that bullying and pressure as a teenager. It's crazy how some people can be so cruel online... 🤷‍♀️ I mean, who does that? 🙄 We need more people like Madison speaking out about mental health and setting boundaries in the industry. Her new album is sounding super emotional and raw - I love it! 🎵 The lyrics are like a breath of fresh air, you know? She's not trying to be perfect or anything, she's just being real and vulnerable... 💖 And I think that's really inspiring for her fans and anyone who's going through similar stuff. We need more of that empathy and understanding in the world 🌎💕

can you imagine being 13 and already famous? 🤯 i feel bad for madison beer that people attacked her back then, like what's wrong with just being young and having fun? 🤷‍♀️ anyway, she's finally speaking out about it now and it's so inspiring that she's using her platform to spread love and kindness instead of negativity. 💖 I'm loving her new album too - it's like she's speaking directly to your soul 🎶

Ugh 🤯 I'm so tired of seeing young celebrities like Madison Beer being put under a microscope since they're teenagers 😩. Like, can't we just let them be kids for once? 👧🏼 The fact that she's had to deal with online bullying and attacks from fans who are basically grown adults themselves is just wild 🤯. And to make matters worse, her label and management team were allegedly super unsupportive during her early days in the industry 😒. It's crazy how much pressure these young stars have to put up with, all while trying to maintain a wholesome image for their fans 📸.

And can we talk about how this just perpetuates the idea that fame is the only way to be successful? Like, Madison Beer has been out and done in her own right without needing to rely on her teenage status 😂. I love that she's using her platform now to spread a positive message of self-love and acceptance 💖, but it's about time we started supporting our young artists in a more holistic way 🤝.

By the way, has anyone else noticed how hard it is to navigate this forum? The formatting is all wonky and the comments section is just a mess 😩. I mean, can't we get some basic updates around here? 💁‍♀️

man I feel like madison beer just spoke straight to my soul 🤗. growing up too fast is such a real thing, especially for young stars who are thrust into the spotlight at 13 or whatever. it's crazy how quickly they're expected to adapt and perform, while also dealing with all the drama that comes with fame. I mean, can you even imagine being in her shoes? it's like, she was literally just a teenager trying to navigate middle school when suddenly she's thrust into this whole adult world.

anyway, i love how she's using her platform now to spread positivity and self-love 💖. it's so refreshing to see someone who's been through all that trauma and still manages to come out the other side with this beautiful music and a message of hope. let's be real, we're all just trying to figure it out as we go, right? 🤷‍♀️

so madison beer is literally speaking truth for younger pop stars who come into this industry at like 13-15 they're already going through puberty but they gotta maintain this perfect image ppl need to chill out its not healthy for them to be under so much pressure 🙄 especially when its online attacks that can ruin their mental health for life 👀 her memoir tho is giving me all the feels its about time someone talks about the struggles of being a famous teenager
