Philly Phlotilla will bring 100 kayakers to the Schuylkill for America250 celebration this summer

A Splash of Red, White and Blue: Philly Phlotilla to Mark America250 Celebration on Schuylkill River

As spring's chill begins to dissipate, a new kind of celebration is brewing along Philadelphia's iconic Schuylkill River. This July, hundreds of kayakers will converge on the waterway for the Philly Phlotilla, an event that promises a kaleidoscope of color and patriotism as part of the region's lead-up to America250.

On Saturday, July 11th, over 100 paddlers will embark on a seven-mile journey from Walnut Street Dock to Fort Mifflin, one of the city's most historic sites. This historic fort, often referred to as "The Fort that Saved America," played a pivotal role during the Revolutionary War, and its significance will be front and center as kayakers make their way south.

Witnesses can expect an unforgettable spectacle as the flotilla glides by under the bridges and riverbanks. But the event is more than just a visual treat – it's also an opportunity to connect with the city's rich history. As part of the celebration, attendees will enjoy a boxed lunch at Schuylkill Banks, followed by kayaking from 1 pm to 4:30 pm.

After paddling into Fort Mifflin, participants can look forward to a lively afternoon with food, drinks, tours, and even a cannon firing. And with registration opening in April, it's not too early to mark your calendar for this summer's colorful procession.

The event marks the perfect moment to bid farewell to winter's chill and hello to sunshine on the river – and by extension, a splash of red, white, and blue that will add some much-needed vibrancy to Center City.
