Pinterest has just launched its own AI-powered search tool called Pinterest Assistant. This new feature aims to provide users with more relevant results when searching for aesthetic inspiration for clothes, furniture, or other items.
The tool relies on a user's Pinterest activity, such as saved items and boards, to provide personalized recommendations. When you initiate a search using the mic icon in the Pinterest app, the AI assistant takes your voice prompt and analyzes visual content to find the best match. This approach is said to be closer to how people shop in real life, where they can browse through various options and filter results based on their preferences.
However, the launch of Pinterest Assistant has raised concerns among users about the increasing amount of AI-generated material on the platform. In recent months, Pinterest has been working to tackle this issue by labeling AI content and introducing a feature to reduce the visibility of AI-generated posts. The new tool is designed to cater to users who are tired of sifting through endless AI-generated content.
As of today, Pinterest Assistant is available in beta form to US users aged 18 and above, with wider availability expected in the coming weeks and months.

And have you noticed how Pinterest has been labeling those AI-generated posts? It's like they're just trying to keep an eye on us, you know? I mean, what if this Assistant starts recommending stuff that's not really what we want? What's their algorithm gonna do then? They'll just tell us it's "relevant" and that's that...

. Plus, it's all about how we shop in real life, right? Browsing through options and filtering out what we don't like? Genius! I'm not worried about the AI-generated content thing, though - I think Pinterest is totally on top of that and doing a great job of labeling and reducing its presence

On the other hand, I get it - using saved items and boards to give personalized recommendations is like totally genius! It makes so much sense that people would want to see curated results based on their own interests. But I'm curious to see how Pinterest will balance user preferences with the risk of seeing too much AI-generated content.
