Politicians 'don't live how we live', voters tell me. The Mandelson scandal won't change their minds | John Harris

I think it's really scary when you see how out of touch politicians are from everyday people 🤯. I mean, who needs experience or understanding of what's going on in our lives when you've got a connection to someone like Jeffrey Epstein? It's just mind-boggling to me that they can keep secrets like this and still get appointed to such a high-profile role.

It's also really telling how many people feel like politicians are living in their own little bubble, with their own set of problems and priorities that have nothing to do with the real world. I've seen so many stories about people who are struggling to make ends meet, or who are fighting for justice and equality, but you never hear those voices in politics.

The thing is, this isn't just about Mandelson – it's about a whole system of corruption and privilege that allows people like him to get away with this stuff. And until we address those systemic issues, I don't think anything's going to change 🤷‍♂️. We need politicians who are willing to listen and learn from the people they're supposed to be serving, not just a bunch of self-serving elites looking out for themselves.

I also think it's interesting that this scandal has highlighted the deep-seated issues within Labour – I mean, who wants to trust a party that's got its roots in some pretty questionable places? 🤔 It's time for them to take a hard look at their own values and priorities, and figure out how they can do better.

ugh this is so true 🤯 i mean what even is the point of having these people in power if they're just gonna keep their own dirty secrets hidden behind closed doors? my aunt has been struggling to make ends meet for years and she's got cancer, meanwhile these politicians are over here sipping tea with Epstein lol it's just not right 💔

🤔 I think its kinda wild that people are so done with politicians and the whole Westminster thing. Like, we all get it, they're not exactly living in our shoes or dealing with our everyday struggles. My grandma is 78 and she's got to choose between heating her home and paying her bills - how can you not understand that? 🤷‍♀️ It's like, politicians are in this bubble where they're only concerned about their own power and status, and we're just trying to survive.

I'm also super frustrated with the whole Labour party situation. They need to do a major overhaul if they want to connect with working-class voters. I mean, its not rocket science - you gotta listen to them, understand their struggles, and address their concerns. Its time for a new narrative that prioritizes people over politics.

I think this Mandelson scandal is like the tip of the iceberg - we're seeing a lot of these disconnects between politicians and the public right now. We need politicians to step up and be more relatable, more transparent, and more accountable. Otherwise, we're just gonna keep on losing faith in them... 🤦‍♂️

I'M SO FED UP WITH POLITICIANS WHO THINK THEY'RE ABOVE THE LAW!!! 🤯 THEY NEED TO GET REAL AND UNDERSTAND THAT WE, THE PEOPLE, ARE THE ONES WHO MAKE THIS COUNTRY RUN! 🙅‍♂️ MANDelson's scandal is just another example of how OUT OF TOUCH they are. I mean, who appoints someone with a known friendship to a convicted sex offender? IT'S LIKE THEY'RE TRYING TO GIVE US A REASON TO LOSE TRUST IN THEM COMPLETELY! 💔 AND YET, LABOUR IS STILL TRYING TO COVER IT UP BY APPOINTING HIM TO THEIR INNER CIRCLE. 🚫 IT JUST SHOWS THAT THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO ELECTED THEM. WE NEED TO MAKE SOME CHANGES AROUND HERE! 😡

omg i totally get what these voters are saying 🤯 like how can ppl in power just keep having relationships with ppl who arent exactly role models? its like they think they're above the law or something lol and yeah the labour party needs to do some soul searching rn they need to be more relatable to working class ppl not just catering to the wealthy elites 👴💸
