'Radical and joyous': Beryl Cook show aims to prove she was a serious artist

I'm low-key stoked about this Beryl Cook retrospective 🎨🙌! She was a total OG, paving the way for more female artists to be taken seriously by critics who thought her style was just "kitsch." But let's be real, her vibrant paintings are anything but kitschy – they're gorgeous and full of life 💖. I love how she gave Plymouth as her canvas and created these incredible portraits of the city and its people 🌊. And can we talk about Bar Girls? that painting is everything 😂. It's amazing to see her work getting the recognition it deserves, especially at this pivotal time celebrating her centenary birth 🎉. Can't wait to check out the exhibition in Plymouth!

omg u guys can't believe beryl cook's legacy is finally getting the recognition it deserves 🤩 she was literally ahead of her time with her vibrant & playful paintings of plymouth's pubs & people 👍 those sculptures of hers across the city are gonna be everything i'm so hyped to see them in person! 💥 and that bar girls painting from 1972 is a total game changer 🎨 it shows how cook celebrated queer culture & female friendships back then which is SO underrated. i think its awesome how her art process is being showcased too - the way she mixed media & influences is so inspiring 📚
