Share a tip on an a winter UK rural break

UK Residents Invited to Share Their Favourite Winter Rural Break Spots for a Chance to Win £200 Voucher

As the days grow shorter, many of us are itching to escape to the great outdoors for a winter rural break. But what makes a perfect winter getaway? A crackling fire in a secluded cottage, perhaps, or a leisurely lunch at a local pub with breathtaking views.

To help inspire your own winter wonderland adventure, we'd love to hear from readers about their top tips for a rural retreat during the colder months. Whether it's a hike in the snow-dusted Lake District, a romantic cabin stay in the rolling hills of Wales, or a relaxing weekend in a coastal hotel with doorstep walks, share your expertise and win a £200 voucher to stay at a Coolstays property.

The best tip will be featured in our Guardian Travel section and website, chosen from a pool of submissions by Tom Hall of Lonely Planet. To enter, keep your tip concise – about 100 words – and send it our way. If you have a relevant photo, feel free to include it, but we'll be judging the tips themselves.

A few things to note: competition closes on November 12th at 10am GMT, and unfortunately, only UK residents are eligible to participate due to legal reasons. Have a look at past winners and other travel tips for inspiration, and read the full terms and conditions before you submit your entry.

OMG, £200 is like, totally not enough for me to afford a winter getaway, idk how people cop with living in the UK already! But seriously, if I'm being honest, I've got a fave spot - it's this tiny village in Scotland where they have these epic snowshoeing trails and you can literally find a pub that serves the best fish & chips 🍟👍. My sis went there last year and raved about it, so now I'm convinced to go too! Guess we should start typing away those 100-word tips ASAP 😅

I'm like "Winter break in a rural spot" yeah right 🤣. Just get me out of this urban jungle with some decent Wi-Fi, I'm good! 📱 But seriously, who doesn't love a cozy cabin or a pub with views? Sounds like a perfect excuse to get out and enjoy the chilliest of seasons ❄️. And if sharing your fave spot for £200 wins you a voucher, count me in... just don't expect me to leave my phone behind 📴. Can't wait to see what other people have got to share! 👀

Ugh, good luck to everyone trying to win that £200 voucher 🤑... just think about all the people who will be struggling financially this winter and can't afford a break, let alone a fancy hotel or B&B 🤕. And it's only for UK residents? That means people in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are basically left out of the running 🚫. Plus, Tom Hall from Lonely Planet is judging all these tips... sounds like just another way to make themselves famous 😒.

OMG u guys gotta check out dis one 🤩! So like, i was thinkin about winter break last yr and decided 2 take my fam 2 lake district & it was LIFE.CHANGING 🌲🏔️. We stayed in this adorable lil cottage w/ fireplace & hot tub - perfect for snugglin up after a day of hikin' 🎿. If u r lookin 4 inspiration, i'd def check out dis compo & share ur own fave spot! £200 voucher is like, a total steal 💸. Just make sure 2 get it in by nov 12th or u'll be missin out 🕰️

I'm so down for this! I think a winter rural break sounds like the ultimate cozy escape 🍂❄️. For me, it's all about finding those hidden gems where you can snuggle up by the fire with a good book and still get to enjoy the breathtaking views. I've been lucky enough to visit some beautiful spots in Scotland and they're just magic 🌲❤️. Whoever wins that £200 voucher is gonna be so lucky! 😍

I'm intrigued by this competition and think it's a great way to spark conversation around the best winter rural breaks in the UK 🌲💡. As someone who's spent countless hours exploring the countryside, I'd love to see more emphasis on lesser-known gems beyond the usual suspects like the Lake District and Cotswolds. Perhaps a few hidden villages or boutique hotels that offer a unique winter experience? 🏠🎄

From what I've seen, the £200 voucher prize is a decent incentive, but I think the real reward would be sharing your own experiences and tips with fellow travel enthusiasts 😊. Who knows, you might just inspire someone to try a new destination or activity!

omg i'm so down for a winter rural break 🌨️😌 think it's a great idea to share our fave spots with others... i've always wanted to visit those rolling hills in wales, they look so peaceful and beautiful 🌄🏞️ but maybe the best tip would be to just get away from city life altogether and find some quiet time in nature 🙏💆‍♀️ winning that £200 voucher would be a lovely bonus too 💸😊

Ugh, £200 voucher is barely enough to pay for gas on my rural weekend getaway 🤑 And what's with only UK residents getting in on this? Can't imagine how thrilling it must be for non-Brits to be excluded from the competition 🤔 It's not like they can just magically appear at a Coolstays property or anything.

omg i need a winter rural break ASAP 🌨️🏠 my fave thing is just curling up by the fire with a hot cuppa and watching the snow fall outside ❄️ sounds like a perfect escape from city life 👌 what about u guys got any fave spots or tips for a cozy winter getaway?

I'm totally down for a winter rural break 🏠❄️! I've got a fave spot that's just perfect for snuggling up by the fire with a good book... it's this tiny cottage in the Cotswolds that's surrounded by snow-covered trees and has a hot tub on the roof! 🌃 It's like something out of a rom-com 😍. My top tip would be to pack warm comfy PJs and a good cuppa, 'cause let's be real, that's what makes a rural break truly special ☕️. And omg, £200 voucher for a Coolstays property sounds like the ultimate prize 💸!

just saw this thread and gotta say, I was in those Lake District snowfields last winter and OMG it was breathtaking 🏔️! stayed in a tiny cabin with a fire that would melt your bones just by staring at it 😂. went for hikes till my legs were numb and then came back to a hot cuppa with a view of the mountains 🍵. if you're looking for a winter retreat, I'd def say give the Lakes a shot! ❤️

I'm so over these winter rural break spots getting all the love 🤯. Can't people just chill in their own backyards like normal? I mean, who needs to hike or stay in a secluded cottage when you can just have a decent hot water bottle and a comfy couch at home?

And £200 voucher for 100 words of your tip? Sounds like a load of codswallop 🤑. What if you come up with something brilliant but it's not exactly 'winter wonderland' material? You'll be stuck with this random travel writer Tom Hall deciding what's 'cool'. Give me a break 😒.

UK residents only, btw? That's just so... exclusive 🤷‍♀️. Can't imagine why they wouldn't want to share their fave spots with the rest of the world.

You know what's wild? We're living in a time where we can just hop on the internet and share our thoughts with the world, but it's weird how some people still think about travel as this aspirational thing that's only for a select few. Like, £200 isn't even a lot of money, you know?

But I guess what they're saying is, these UK residents are trying to give each other some love and ideas for winter getaways. It's like we need reminders sometimes to appreciate the little things, like a cozy cabin in the woods or a quiet pub lunch with views. And honestly, who doesn't love that? 🌲💡

Meh, like who's actually gonna win that £200 voucher? It's just another competition where people will probably just share some generic tip about hiking in the Lake District without even reading it themselves 🤔. And what's with only UK residents being eligible? Like, is Lonely Planet trying to encourage British tourists or something? It's not like anyone's gonna stumble upon this competition by chance... probably just a bunch of people who are super active on social media and see it pop up in their feeds 😒.

OMG, I just know the winner is gonna be some dude from the Cotswolds who stays in that super trendy glamping pod 🤩! Like, I've seen their Instagram posts, it's got a fire pit and everything! But honestly, I'm rooting for whoever shares their fave hidden gem - you know, like that secret spot in Dartmoor that nobody tells everyone about 🌳. Anyway, my fave winter rural break would be a cozy cabin in the woods with a hot tub overlooking the snow-covered trees... sounds like heaven to me! 🏔️🔥
