Six Nations 2026: Wales call up Ospreys lock Rhys Davies

Wales coach Steve Tandy has chosen Ospreys lock Rhys Davies as his eighth lock option for the 2026 Six Nations tournament. The 27-year-old, who started in Wales' 73-0 defeat to South Africa in November, was initially left out of the original 38-man squad. However, he is now set to make his long-awaited return to the team.

Tandy praised Davies, saying that he has been "excellent" with his physicality, aggression around collisions, ball carrying and ruck hits. Ospreys head coach Mark Jones also described Davies as a good player who deserved the call-up. The Ospreys have struggled in recent years, but their players have continued to impress at international level.

Davies will join other Ospreys players in Wales' squad, including Liam Belcher, James Botham, and Olly Cracknell. The team's captain, Dewi Lake, is also set to make his Six Nations debut.

The squad has been boosted by the return of several key players, including Sam Wainwright, who was named captain for the tournament just a few days ago. The team will face England at Twickenham on February 7 and finish with a match against Italy at home on March 14.

Wales' Six Nations campaign is shaping up to be a crucial one, with the team looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 tournament. With Davies in the mix, they may have a better chance of success this time around.

man I'm thinking about how much pressure these rugby players are under, you know? like they're not just playing for themselves, but for their country and their fans too 🤔. it's crazy that one game can be so brutal, like 73-0 is a whole different level of hurt 🤕. and now Rhys Davies gets another chance, but what does it mean for him? is it redemption or just another test of his skills? 🏉

and the squad's dynamics are so interesting too, like how everyone comes together as a team, but also has their own individual goals and struggles 🤝. dewi lake being captain, sam wainwright leading by example... these guys are human, they're gonna make mistakes, but at least they're trying to bounce back from last year's disappointment 💪.

anyway, i think it's awesome that wales is getting more players back in the mix, and rhys davies joining them? maybe this is just what they needed, a fresh perspective or something 🤯. anyway, can't wait for the tournament to start!

Another overhyped Ospreys player thinks they can save Wales from another embarrassing Six Nations performance 🙄. Rhys Davies is no exception - just because he's got some decent physical stats and decent ball carrying skills, it doesn't mean he'll magically turn the team into a force to be reckoned with. Mark Jones saying he's been "excellent"? Yeah right, that's what they all say until the big games 😒.

And what's up with the Ospreys' inability to consistently perform at international level? The fact that they've had to resort to picking Davies and other mediocre players from their own squad just shows how weak they are. Wales needs more than just a few decent players - they need depth, chemistry, and actual talent 💔. And don't even get me started on the team's captain, Dewi Lake... I mean, 73-0 to South Africa? That's not a debut, that's a warning shot across the bow 🚨.

Man, it's so refreshing to see Wales giving Ospreys players a chance! Rhys Davies is like the ultimate underdog story – got snubbed initially but now he's back in and ready to shine 🙌. I think his addition to the squad could be a game-changer for them this Six Nations. The team needs all the luck they can get after last year's disappointing campaign, but with Davies on board, maybe they'll finally find that winning edge 💪. Fingers crossed for Wales, and I'm hyped to see what these guys can do! 😄

Dunno about this move... Rhys Davies has been decent for Ospreys, but 73-0 against South Africa is a big red flag 🙅‍♂️. Still, Tandy seems convinced that he's the real deal and all the rave from Jones too 😐. It'll be interesting to see how he performs at the Six Nations. The squad looks a bit patchy, but hey, you can't win 'em all, right? 🤔 At least they've got some decent players like Wainwright back in the mix, and that's gotta give them some hope 💪.

😊 I think it's awesome that Rhys Davies gets his chance to shine for Wales! I mean, who doesn't love an underdog story 🤩? The Ospreys have been struggling, but their players still manage to impress at the international level - that says a lot about their talent and dedication 💪. It'll be interesting to see how this squad comes together and how they perform against England on Feb 7... fingers crossed for them! 🤞

🤔 I think it's awesome that Rhys Davies got a second chance at playing for Wales! He's been doing well for Ospreys and his physicality is gonna be a big asset to the team. I'm loving how the squad is looking, too - they've got some talented players coming back from injuries and it's great to see Dewi Lake making his Six Nations debut 🎉. The England match at Twickenham is gonna be intense, but with Davies on board, I think Wales might just pull off a win 😅.
