Strauss, Dvořák and Glazunov album review – packs a dramatic punch

A new album on the Leipzig-based Accentus label showcases the work of three 19th-century composers: Dvořák, Glazunov, and Strauss. The program takes an absorbing look at the concept of a hero, or what makes someone a hero in the eyes of others.

Dvořák's "A Hero's Song" stands out as a powerful piece that weaves together themes of determination, conflict, and ultimately hope. With Hrůša's deft hand at the podium, this 20-minute micro-symphony packs an emotionally charged punch that showcases Dvořák's masterful melodic writing.

Glazunov's "To the Memory of a Hero" is another highlight on this album, composed when the composer was just 20 years old. This elegiac work exudes somberness with two instantly memorable themes that are beautifully shaped by Hrůša and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.

In contrast, Richard Strauss's "Ein Heldenleben" – a piece more familiar to listeners than newcomers – begins at a slightly plodding pace. While the orchestra can feel congested when the full force of Strauss's orchestration is unleashed, Hrůša's flexible phrasing brings out the music's more intimate moments, particularly in his portrayal of Strauss's wife and the hero's poignant final retirement.

Overall, this album demonstrates how three generations of composers dealt with the idea of a hero, their works reflecting on themes that are timeless and universal.

🤩 just listened to this new accentus album and i gotta say, its totally underrated 🙄. dvořák's 'a hero's song' gives me chills every time, so emotive and powerful 💥. glazunov's piece is super haunting too, somberness all over the place 🌫️. but what really gets me is how Strauss's music can be both grandiose and intimate at the same time 🔪️. it's like he's poking fun at his own hero complex or something 🤣. anyway, if you haven't checked out this album yet, you gotta give it a listen ASAP 👀

omg u guyz i just lisened to dis new album on accentus label n its literally giving me all th feels!!! 🤩 Dvořák's "A Hero's Song" is like woah, its so powerful & emotional lol how can 1 piece of music make me cry n feel like im on a roll at the same time?? 💭 anyways glazunov's "To the Memory of a Hero" is super deep too i mean who writes somber music @ 20 lol thats like me trying to cook ramen n everything 🍜🤣 but for real tho, hruša & bamberg symphony orchestra r killing it rn! 💥

Ugh, can't they just make the music player not skip tracks while you're in the middle of listening to something? I mean, I love classical music as much as the next person, but come on! 🙄

So, I'm finally getting around to listening to this new album on Accentus and I have to say, it's a solid effort. The way they've woven together these three composers' works is actually really interesting. Dvořák's piece is so emotional, though - it makes me wanna cry! 😭

But what really gets my goat is that the album skips tracks when you try to fast forward or rewind. Like, can't they just make it work like Spotify does? 🤦‍♀️ And don't even get me started on the interface... I mean, I know this is a classical music website and all, but c'mon! 👀

omg I love when my school orchestra does concerts on classical music stuff like this 🎵 it's so inspiring to see how some of these old composers' works can still make you feel all the emotions 💕 especially Dvořák's "A Hero's Song" it's like, really intense and hopeful at the same time 🔥 I wish we did more performances of modern orchestral stuff in school though, would be so cool 🎶

🎵💡 I'm really loving this new album on Accentus label! The way Hrůša brings out the emotional depth in Dvořák's "A Hero's Song" is just masterful 🤩. And have you listened to Glazunov's piece, it's like a dark and moody poem come to life 😍. But what really stood out for me was Strauss's "Ein Heldenleben", I mean, it's not every day you get to hear the nuances in his music that you don't usually pick up on 🎧. It's like Hrůša is speaking a secret language between the notes and the orchestra 🤫. Anyway, this album is giving me major feelings about what makes us human and our perceptions of heroism... 💖

this album sounds really interesting 🎵 i love classical music and it's awesome to see how different composers tackled the concept of a hero in their work. glazunov's piece is already on my watchlist because of its somberness - it reminds me of some emotional songs by adele 💔 dvořák's 'hero's song' sounds powerful though, i'd love to hear it performed live 🎶

omg u guys!! 🤩 i'm literally DYING over this new album on Accentus label!!! it's like they took 3 legendary composers and brought them together for an epic journey 🌟 dvořák's "A Hero's Song" is giving me CHILLS every time 😭 glazunov's "To the Memory of a hero" is so hauntingly beautiful 💔 and strauss's "Ein Heldenleben"... *sigh* i know it's a classic but hrůša just made it feel like new again 🎶 his way of conducting the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra is pure magic ✨ what i love most about this album is how it explores the concept of heroism through different perspectives... it's not just about grand heroic moments, but also about vulnerability and introspection 💖 overall, 10/10 would listen to this on repeat all day 😊

🎶 I recently listened to this album on Spotify and gotta say, it's really deep 🤔. The way Dvořák's "A Hero's Song" just takes over is insane, I mean, the emotions in that piece are so intense it gives me chills every time 😱. And Glazunov's work, oh man, it's like he's trying to tell a story without using words, you know? The way Hrůša conducts it all feels super authentic 🎵.

And I love how the album puts these three composers together, it's like they're talking about the same thing but from different perspectives 🤝. It's cool to see how their ideas of a hero changed over time too. I'm definitely gonna listen to this again and explore more of these composers' music 👍

🎵 I'm loving this new album on Accentus label! The way they picked 3 different composers from the 19th century to show us what makes a hero is so cool. I mean, Dvořák's "A Hero's Song" gives me chills it's so powerful and emotive 🤯

I also love how Glazunov's piece "To the Memory of a Hero" sounds so somber and sad at the same time. And Strauss's "Ein Heldenleben" is like a totally different vibe, but still really beautiful in its own way.

What I think is amazing about this album is that it shows us how heroes are thought about in different ways by different people over time. It's not just some traditional hero, but also someone who's struggling and feeling old. 🤝

I'm loving the way Accentus label is bringing some classical music magic to our ears 😊🎵! It's amazing to see how these 19th-century composers tackled the concept of heroism in their work - it's still so relevant today 💭.

Dvořák's "A Hero's Song" gives me chills every time, I love how Hrůša brings out the emotional depth in that piece 🌊. And Glazunov's "To the Memory of a Hero" is just hauntingly beautiful - the two themes he wrote are etched in my mind forever 💔.

I'm not usually one for super long symphonies, but Dvořák's 20-minute micro-symphony is actually really great 👏. And it's cool to see how Hrůša helps to highlight Strauss's more intimate moments - I was totally immersed in that piece 🎵.

One thing that struck me was how each composer approached the idea of heroism from their own unique perspective 🤔. It's a testament to the power of music to connect us across time and generations 🔥.
