Houston Police Department Announces Arrest of Suspect in Christmas Day Shooting

A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting that occurred on Christmas Day in southwest Houston, according to officials. Jonathon Ross, 39, was taken into custody by the police after being linked to the incident.

The incident took place at around 1:05 a.m. on December 25th at 6609 West Sam Houston Parkway South when Desmond Butler, 25, was shot and killed while driving his gray Honda Pilot. According to eyewitnesses, a Hispanic woman had gotten out of a black GMC and attempted to open the back passenger door of Butler's vehicle before a Hispanic man fired shots at it.

Butler then drove north on the feeder road of the West Sam Houston Parkway when he was hit by gunfire and crashed into a pole in an adjacent parking lot. The suspects fled the scene, but one of them turned himself in on January 14th.

An investigation revealed that the female passenger in Butler's vehicle was not a family member of the suspect, Jonathon Ross. However, Ross had been identified as the individual responsible for the shooting.

Ross has since been booked into the Harris County Jail and faces charges related to the murder of Desmond Butler. The motive behind the incident remains under investigation.
 
OMG, can't believe this happened on Christmas Day 🤯😱. That poor guy who got shot was just trying to help out a stranger, right? And now his life is literally gone 😢. I mean, what's even more messed up is that one of the suspects didn't even try to run away after he hit someone, lol! He just surrendered on Jan 14th 🙄. The female passenger who got out of the black GMC was like, a total angel, trying to help Desmond out, but still caught in the crossfire 💔. Anyway, I hope Jonathon Ross gets what's coming to him and his family can finally find some closure 😕.
 
omg did u watch the news?? 🤯 this christmas day shooting is literally shocking me how can someone do that?? 😩 i mean i know it's not the first time something like this happens but still it's just so sad desmond butler was killed and now jonathon ross is behind bars 👮‍♂️ hopefully he gets the max sentence so justice is served 🤞
 
omg i just got back from christmas dinner and i'm still trying to process what's going on in houston 🤯 a guy got shot and killed on christmas day?! that's so random, like what was he even doing driving around at 1am on the 25th lol. and then there's this whole thing with the suspects and the woman who tried to open the door... it's all so confusing 🙄 i mean, why would someone do something like that? and now one of them turned themselves in... that's just wild, right? anyway, hope the family of desmond butler gets some justice soon ❤️
 
Can't believe it's taken them this long to catch the guy 🙄. I mean, 14 days after Christmas? That's like finding a needle in a haystack or something 😂. Guess they needed all that time to get their "system" together... yeah right 🙃. Anyway, glad justice is finally being served and Desmond's family can start closing this chapter on their lives 💔. Just hope the system doesn't mess it up for them too 🤞. By the way, has anyone checked if the suspect's lawyers are actually from around here or just some out-of-state experts? Asking for a friend 😏.
 
omg just heard about this btw i was so shaken when i saw it on the news last night 😱 i mean who does that?! 39 years old and still out here shooting people randomly? my little brother has been friends with someone who knows Jonathon Ross from college he said he's not a good guy at all 🤕 anyway idk what the motive was supposed to be but it just feels so senseless you know? i was driving home on Christmas day and felt so blessed to make it through the night without any issues 🙏 i hope Desmond's family gets the justice they deserve 💔

I'm glad they caught Ross, but it's not like this is going to make sense for years to come... the motive's still a mystery 🤔. And can you imagine driving down the road and getting shot at out of nowhere? 😱 That must've been terrifying for Desmond's friends and family who are still trying to process what happened. Hopefully, justice will be served and Ross faces the consequences of his actions 💯. The whole city is probably shaken up by this incident, but at least we have law enforcement looking into it 👮‍♂️.
 
🤔 I mean, this Christmas Day shooting in Houston is just crazy... like, who gets involved in a shootout on December 25th? 🎄 And then you find out it's some random guy Jonathon Ross who was driving with his girlfriend (who wasn't even family) and she happens to get into an argument with someone. Like, what were they thinking? 😂 But seriously, this whole thing just seems so avoidable if people didn't have guns or if there was better communication. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how the investigation goes... 🕵️‍♂️

🤔 yall can't believe what's goin on in houston rn, someone got shot on christmas day and now a suspect is arrested, but like, the thing is, it's not just about the shooting, it's about how this all went down, one of the suspects was like tryna open the door of the victim's car and then another dude shoots at it, that's some wild stuff... 🚨👮‍♂️
 
This is super concerning 🤕... I mean, Christmas Day, you know? Family time, presents, and then this happens. It's just really sad that someone lost their life over a car accident. And what's even more weird is that the female passenger wasn't even related to Ross! You gotta wonder what was going through the guy's mind when he started shooting. I guess we'll never know for sure unless they get him to talk 😕... anyway, justice will be served and hopefully this will help prevent something like this from happening again. The investigation is still ongoing, so let's hope they catch any other potential suspects 🚔
 
Man, this Christmas Day shooting in Houston is just another example of how quickly things can go wrong 🤕. I feel so bad for Desmond's family, losing him like that on a day when everyone was supposed to be happy and celebrating love 💔. The fact that the suspects turned themselves in is a good start, but it's gonna take a lot more than that to make sure justice is served 🚔. I just hope they get the motive figured out so people can finally find some closure about what happened 👀. This incident is also a reminder of how gun violence is still a huge problem in our country 💥.
 
just when u think christmas is all about love & giving, u hear about senseless gun violence in houston... 🤕 i'm still trying to wrap my head around it, a family on christmas day gets caught up in a drive by shooting... can't we just have peace on earth? 🌎 the fact that there were 2 hispanic women involved & one of them tried to help just makes this even more heartbreaking. u gotta wonder what was going through their minds when they decided to take matters into their own hands 💔 meanwhile, jonathon ross is behind bars but i'm not sure that's enough... we need systemic change to address gun violence & community support for our most vulnerable citizens 🤝
 
Ugh, another Christmas Day turned into a tragedy 🤕. I mean, what's the point of even celebrating holidays when you're just gonna end up hearing about some crazy crime story? Like, who needs presents and family gatherings when someone's just gonna go around shooting people? And now this guy Ross is behind bars, but it's gonna be ages before he gets a fair trial or whatever. I'm sure the system will just drag out his sentence to make an example of him... meanwhile, the guy who got shot up, Desmond Butler, is really gone for real 🤦‍♂️. Can't even imagine what his family's going through right now.

It's like, what even is that? 😱 And then for one of the suspects to turn himself in after all these days...like, isn't that always a thing that happens with some crimes? Anyway, poor Desmond Butler was really hurt and ended up not making it 🙏. Hopefully the person who did this gets caught soon. It's just so frustrating when senseless violence happens like this 🤷‍♀️

man I just found out about this on my morning scroll 🤦‍♂️ and I'm still trying to process it, 25 years old just dying on Christmas day is senseless 😔. I feel bad for Desmond's family, can't imagine what they're going through right now 🤕. The investigation saying the female passenger wasn't related to Ross makes me wonder if there was a third person involved tho? didn't think we were getting all that info at first 🤔. anyway, glad justice is being served and Ross is behind bars for now 💯. hope Butler's family gets some closure soon ❤️
 
I don’t usually comment but... this is just so sad 🤕. Christmas Day, supposed to be a time for love and joy, instead turns out to be a day of tragedy for some families. I feel bad for Desmond's family, they must be going through an awful lot right now 💔. And that poor woman who got caught in the crossfire... how is she doing? 🤞 The police did their job by catching Ross and charging him with murder, but it's just not enough to bring back Butler 😢. I wish there was a way to prevent such senseless violence from happening on our streets 💔
