The Long Shoe by Bob Mortimer audiobook review – typically quirky cosy crime

Quirky Cosy Crime Alert: 'The Long Shoe' by Bob Mortimer

Meet Matt Giles, a hapless 30-something who's having one bad luck after another. Recently fired from his job as a bathroom salesman and evicted from his flat with his girlfriend Harriet, it seems like life can't get much worse – but boy, is it wrong. A note from Harriet informs him she's left him, only to have the tables turned when he receives a mysterious call about a luxurious new apartment, sparking hope that things are finally going Matt's way.

Of course, with Bob Mortimer behind the mic, this quirky cosy crime novel can't be taken too seriously. Good luck trying! The author's trademark offbeat sense of humour shines through in his narration, particularly when it comes to Matt's befuddlement at trying to spot familiar faces – a task akin to searching for a mouse's handbag in a builder's skip.

Here, Mortimer masterfully juggles three alternating viewpoints: Matt's own chapters, Harriet's voice (narrated by the delightfully dry Diane Morgan), and their nosy neighbour Carol (played by Arabella Weir). The latter may have a penchant for romping after younger men – never a good idea. As it turns out, Harriet hasn't left Matt at all but has been a victim of crime.

The plot gets a bit tangled in its own web of contrivances, but trust us, the laughs and snappy dialogue keep things ticking along. Goodmonson, Matt's wisecracking cat, adds an extra layer of surreal charm to this already bizarre world. Even if 'The Long Shoe' takes a few leaps of faith, it remains undeniably quirky and delightfully funny – making for a listen that will leave you beaming.

😊 I just finished listening to "The Long Shoe" by Bob Mortimer and I gotta say, it's a wild ride! Matt Giles' misadventures had me laughing out loud... some parts were like 'what is going on?!?' but that's part of the charm, right? The cast of characters, especially Harriet and Carol, are so well done. It's like having three different podcasts merged into one hilarious show 📻😂. I'm not gonna lie, it got a bit confusing at times (I'm pretty bad at keeping track of plot twists), but the humor and banter between characters kept me hooked. All in all, a fun, lighthearted listen that's perfect for a commute or just chillin' 😎.

omg I'm already hooked on this podcast 🤣! Bob Mortimer's humor is like butter for my ears - it just makes me LOL. I love how he pokes fun at himself and life in general, it's so relatable. And can we talk about the characters?! Matt Giles sounds like a lovable idiot that I'm rooting for, and Diane Morgan's deadpan voice is perfection 😂. I'm not gonna lie, some plot twists were a bit meh but the banter and laughs made up for it all 🤪. I've already listened to it 3 times and I'm still finding new things to giggle about 👍

omg just listened to this podcast and i'm DYING lol matt giles sounds like the ultimate simp 🤣 but i love how bob mortimer brings the humor 😂 goodmonson is literally the best feline narrator ever 🐈👍 the plot might be a bit wibbly wobbly but it's so much fun to listen to

omg this show is just too much i mean who else gets their life turned upside down after being evicted and then receives a mysterious call about a luxury apartment? sounds like bob mortimer is having an epic meltdown but in a good way lol the cat's wisecracks are already giving me life, must listen to the full thing

🤣 I'm not buying the whole "quirky cosy crime" thing here. It's just another case of the rich getting richer, while the poor guy like Matt Giles gets stuck in a never-ending cycle of misfortune. And don't even get me started on the fact that Harriet was actually a victim of crime all along? Sounds like a classic tale of the "tragic rags-to-riches" narrative - and we all know how well that one ends up working out for the little guy... Meanwhile, Bob Mortimer's humor is just a clever distraction from the real issues at play here. The system is rigged, folks! 🚫

I just listened to "The Long Shoe" by Bob Mortimer 🎧 and I gotta say, it's such a fun ride! The way the author weaves together this wacky story with his signature humor is pure magic ✨. I love how Matt Giles, the main character, is just trying to navigate life after being fired and evicted - who hasn't been there, right? 😂 But what really gets me is how Bob Mortimer's narration brings all these characters to life, especially Harriet and Carol 🤣. The dialogue is snappy and hilarious, and even when the plot gets a bit tangled, it's still impossible not to giggle 😆. I'm definitely looking forward to more of Bob Mortimer's quirky adventures - he's definitely found his niche as a "cosy crime" author 📚. Give it a listen if you want a laugh-out-loud good time!

omg i just binged this audiobook and i'm DYING over the main characters Matt and Harriet lol they're soooo relatable especially when Matt's job is selling bathrooms what even is that? 😂 and can we talk about how Goodmonson the cat is the real star of this show I ship that cat too 🐈💕. seriously though, Bob Mortimer's narration is perfection from start to finish i loved how he pokes fun at himself and the absurdity of it all. 9/10 would recommend if you need a good laugh 😂

🤣 This show is soooo ridiculous I love it! Bob Mortimer's sense of humor always cracks me up and this one is no exception. The idea of a hapless guy getting mixed up in some wacky crime drama is just too funny 🤦‍♂️. And the three different narrators are all great - Diane Morgan as Harriet is my fave, she's always so deadpan 😂. I love how good-natured the whole thing is, it's like a big ol' warm hug in podcast form ❤️. The plot may get a bit wonky, but who cares when you're having this much fun? 👍

I just finished listening to "The Long Shoe" by Bob Mortimer 🤣 and I gotta say, this guy's got some serious comedic chops! The way he weaves the story together with those three different perspectives is pure genius. Matt's frustration at trying to spot familiar faces had me laughing out loud 😂, but what really caught my attention was how well-he balanced the humor with a touching crime plot. Goodmonson's wisecracking sidekick added an extra layer of entertainment 🐈! Don't let the weirdness deter you – give it a listen and get ready for some serious LOLs 😆

I just listened to "The Long Shoe" and I gotta say, it's been ages since I had this much fun 😂. I mean, who wouldn't want to follow the misadventures of Matt Giles, a bloke having more bad luck than a lottery ticket? The writing's offbeat, but in a good way, like a warm cuppa on a Sunday afternoon 🍵. Diane Morgan's narration is pure gold, and Bob Mortimer's wit had me chuckling out loud 😆. It may get a bit confusing at times, but the laughs keep you going. I'll be honest, I didn't see that twist coming... well, not that it matters if you're just here for the entertainment 🎉!

omg i just finished listening to this and I'm DYING 😂 Matt's misadventures had me giggling out loud, especially with Harriet's sassiness 🙄 but what really got me was the cat's one-liners, Goodmonson is literally the real MVP 🐈👏

lol @ 'quirky cosy crime alert', sounds like a tagline for a bad rom-com 🤣. but seriously, this Bob Mortimer guy has some wicked humor, I'll give him that 😂. the whole thing is just so... British, you know? like, who's leaving someone for a luxurious new apartment after being evicted with their girlfriend? sounds like something out of a Monty Python sketch 🤣. anyway, if you're in the mood for some silly laughs, I suppose it's worth a listen 👂

Omg I just binge listened to this thing and I am DYING!!! 😂💀 the guy's life is literally the ultimate meme - from being evicted to getting in some kinda crime drama? what a wild ride! 🤯 Bob Mortimer's humor had me laughing out loud so many times, especially with Diane Morgan's deadpan narration for Harriet's chapters 👀👑 and then there's Arabella Weir's nosy neighbor Carol 😂💁‍♀️ it all just works so well together. I love how Goodmonson the cat is basically the real star of the show 🐈💫

I'm loving the absurdity of this story 🤣. I mean, who wouldn't want to hear about a guy trying to navigate life after a series of ridiculous misfortunes? But what really caught my attention is how well Mortimer balances humor with the darker themes of crime and vulnerability 💡. The character development is top-notch, especially Diane Morgan's dry narration – it adds this delightful layer of sarcasm to Harriet's storyline 😂. And can we talk about Goodmonson the cat? That little guy is literally the best thing since sliced bread 🐱. Overall, 'The Long Shoe' has me hooked – I need to know what happens next! 👀

I'm loving the absurdity of this whole story 🤣. I mean, who gets evicted from their flat only to have hope restored with a mysterious phone call about a new apartment? Sounds like something out of a bad dream... or a really good comedy show 😂. The way Mortimer weaves together all these different perspectives is genius, and the banter between Matt and Harriet (who's actually being victimized by crime 😳) had me giggling out loud. And Goodmonson, that wisecracking cat? I need more of him in my life 🐱💕

🤣 I gotta say, this reminds me that life's not about being perfect, it's about the journey. Matt Giles' story is like our own, where things seem to go from bad to worse... but sometimes that's just a detour to something even better. And let's be real, who hasn't had one of those 'aha!' moments where everything clicks into place? 🙌 The show's clever use of multiple perspectives and wacky characters also teaches us about the importance of empathy and not judging others – you never know what's really going on behind closed doors! 🤐 Good storytelling always leaves me feeling uplifted, even when things get a bit absurd 😂

lol what's up w/ this guy Matt Giles? one bad luck after another sounds like my week 🤦‍♂️ but seriously, who tries to find familiar faces in a builder's skip? 🙄 anyway, bob mortimer's sense of humour is still on point and diane morgan's narration for harriet's chapters had me dying 😂 also goodmonson the cat is literally the real star of this show 🐈👀

OMG 🤣 this author is like the master of comedy, I mean who else could make me laugh while also trying to solve a mystery? 😂 it's crazy how he juggles 3 different perspectives and still manages to keep the humor going. I loved Goodmonson, that cat is literally the best sidekick ever 🐱💤 Matt's misadventures are so relatable I'm kinda rooting for him despite all his mishaps 🤦‍♂️ and can we talk about Diane Morgan's narration skills? perfection 😎 just listened to an ep in one sitting, totally hooked now 💡
