The Score will launch FM simulcast on 104.3 on Feb. 2

Audacy's sports powerhouse, The Score, is set to make a significant upgrade with its launch of an FM simulcast on 104.3 on February 2. This marks the station's first foray into the FM band, where it will be rebranded as 104.3 The Score and carry the same programming that fans have grown accustomed to on AM 670.

The move not only expands The Score's reach but also solidifies its position in a rapidly changing media landscape. With more and more automakers removing AM radio from their vehicles, an FM simulcast ensures that sports fans will continue to have access to their favorite teams, even as the technology shifts around them.

As part of this move, three employees at JAMS, which currently shares 104.3 with The Score, will be let go. However, Audacy Chicago senior vice president and market manager Kevin Cassidy is confident that this change will bring more people into the fold. "We're excited to expand The Score's reach through this FM simulcast, bringing our premier sports content to an even wider audience so they can join the conversation and stay connected to their favorite Chicago teams," he said in a statement.

The Score has long been a staple of Chicago sports fans, carrying Bulls and Cubs games, as well as NFL matchups from Westwood One. The station also aired seven Sky games last season, further cementing its status as a top destination for sports enthusiasts. With this new FM simulcast, The Score is poised to become even more integral to the city's sports landscape.

While some might worry that this change will lead to a decline in listenership, Audacy has taken steps to protect The Score's interests. As part of its efforts to combat the removal of AM radio from vehicles, Congress recently passed the bipartisan AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, which aims to ensure that FM signals remain available. While it remains to be seen how this legislation will play out, one thing is certain: 104.3 The Score is ready to shine in its new role as Chicago's premier sports station.

Interestingly, sister station WBBM Newsradio 780 has already made the leap to FM with a simulcast on 105.9 (WCFS), marking the latest development in Audacy's ongoing efforts to expand its reach across the city. As The Score prepares to take center stage, one thing is clear: sports fans in Chicago are in for a treat.

I'm so stoked about this move by The Score 🤩! I mean, who doesn't love having more options when it comes to listening to their fave teams? And with the tech shifts happening left and right, an FM simulcast is just the ticket. I've been a die-hard Cubs fan for years, and 104.3's always been my go-to station - now they're taking it up a notch! 💥 Plus, it's awesome to see Audacy Chicago getting behind this move, protecting their interests and whatnot. And let's be real, WBBM Newsradio 780 just proved that FM simulcasts can work out, so I'm hyped for The Score's chances of success too 🎉. Bring on the sports talk, bring on the games - I'll be tuning in every time! 👊

omg u guys r gonna love this new simulcast!! i was thinking, with all those automakers dropping AM radio from their vehicles, it's crazy they're just switching to FM like that 🤯. what's next? gonna have to upgrade my car too lol... but seriously tho, 104.3 The Score is gonna be fire!! they gotta move fast, though - if ppl are already getting used to WBBM on FM, u think they'll still tune in for sports?? idk, maybe it's all good tho... more content options = better for us listeners 📻👍

🤔 think it's cool they're making this move, gets more people listening to their sports stuff... but also feels bad for those 3 employees who lost their jobs 🤕 at least the new FM simulcast will bring in more fans and help 'em stay connected to their favorite teams ⚾🏈. hope it all works out for The Score 📻💪

I'm loving this move by The Score! FM simulcast is gonna be awesome, especially with all these cars ditching AM radio 🚗💻. It's only natural that they'd want to adapt to the changing media landscape. And yeah, it's sad that some JAMS employees are losing their jobs, but I guess it's all part of the game, right? 😔 On a positive note, this is great news for sports fans in Chicago - we're gonna have access to even more awesome content! 104.3 The Score, here we come 🎉🏈!

Ugh, I dont get why they need to lay off 3 employees 🤷‍♂️... I mean, if the station is getting more popular and people want to listen to The Score, shouldn't that be good news? 🤔 Can someone explain to me why they would cut jobs when more people are tuning in? It just seems like a weird move to me 😐
