The Setapp Mobile iOS store is shutting down on February 16th

Setapp Mobile to Shut Down on February 16th, Leaving Users Without Access to Apps

MacPaw has announced that Setapp Mobile will cease operations on February 16th, marking the end of an alternative app store in the EU. The platform, which aimed to provide users with access to a new app ecosystem, is due to shut down due to evolving commercial conditions that no longer fit within its current business model.

Users who have accessed apps via Setapp Mobile will lose access to them after February 16th and are advised to transfer their data in advance. This move comes as Apple still makes it challenging for third-party sources to install apps on iOS devices, making alternative app stores like Setapp Mobile even more difficult to sustain.

The decision was made despite the platform's initial promise of creating a new app ecosystem where both developers and users could thrive. However, MacPaw CEO Oleksandr Kosovan stated that "still-evolving commercial conditions" led to the conclusion that it is not viable to continue development or support for Setapp Mobile within its current business model.

The shutdown marks the end of an alternative app store in the EU, leaving developers and users with limited options. MacPaw is now shifting focus to other projects, including Eney, a first-of-its-kind AI assistant native to macOS, and enhancements to its existing Setapp Desktop service.

omg what's up with setapp mobile ๐Ÿคฏ i mean, i get it the commercial conditions have changed but can't they just adapt or something? ๐Ÿค” i was really into using that app store because it offered so many cool indie apps that aren't available on the main app stores ๐ŸŽจ. now those devs are gonna lose out ๐Ÿค‘ and users like me are stuck with limited options ๐Ÿ˜’. anyway, hope macpaw's new projects like eney turn out well ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ‘

I'm low-key freaking out about this ๐Ÿคฏ! Setapp Mobile was literally my go-to for discovering new apps on my iPad - it's so sad that I'll have to find alternative ways to get new ones now ๐Ÿ˜”. It just makes sense, though... with Apple being the only game in town when it comes to iOS apps, it's hard for any third-party store to compete ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. And let's be real, who doesn't love a good app ecosystem where both devs and users can thrive? ๐Ÿ˜Š MacPaw was trying something new, but I guess the market just wasn't ready yet ๐Ÿ’”. Guess that means I'll have to stick with the Apple App Store... not exactly the most exciting thought ๐Ÿคฏ

Ugh I'm so sad about this ๐Ÿค• Setapp Mobile was one of the few ways I could find decent apps for my old phone... now what's gonna happen to those devs? ๐Ÿค” They're just gonna lose all their userbase and money? It's not right... ๐Ÿ˜ข

I'm kinda bummed about Setapp Mobile shutting down ๐Ÿค•, but I guess it's a good thing for Apple to keep everything in-house, you know? It means our iOS devices are gonna be even more secure ๐Ÿ˜Š. On the bright side, MacPaw is still working on some awesome projects like Eney AI assistant and Setapp Desktop enhancements ๐Ÿš€! Maybe we'll see more innovative stuff from them soon. I just wish there were more options for us users, but hey, at least we got to experience something new for a bit ๐Ÿ˜Š.

๐Ÿค” I don't get why they gotta shut down their own app store like this... it seems kinda pointless, especially since Apple's still not making it easy for other devs to make apps for iOS. I mean, what's the point of having an alternative if you're just gonna lose access to all those apps? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ MacPaw had some legit ideas about creating a new ecosystem and all that, but apparently it wasn't enough... or maybe they just realized making money was harder than they thought ๐Ÿ˜ Anyway, this is kinda bad news for devs who wanted to reach EU users. Guess we'll just have to keep relying on Apple's app store ๐Ÿ“ฑ

I don't usually comment but... it's kinda sad to see Setapp Mobile shutting down, feels like we're losing another option for users ๐Ÿค”. I mean, I've been using it for a while now and thought it was cool that they were trying to offer something different from Apple's store, you know? But I guess the commercial conditions just weren't right for them, and now we're left with even fewer choices ๐Ÿ“‰. It's weird, 'cause MacPaw is still working on other projects, like Eney and Setapp Desktop, so maybe this isn't the end of all their efforts... but still, it's a shame to see an alternative app store go ๐Ÿ’”.

setapp mobile shutting down ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’” thats so bummer, especially for eu users who had alternative app stores to download apps. i feel bad for the devs whose livelihoods depend on setapp mobile... and dont even get me started on how hard it is to install 3rd party apps on ios devices ๐Ÿคฏ anyway, hope macpaw's new projects like eney will do well - ai assistant sounds cool! ๐Ÿค–

Man, this news just broke my heart ๐Ÿ˜” Setapp Mobile was like the underdog in the app store world, trying to give developers an alternative way to reach users. It's sad that they had to shut it down because of Apple's rules ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, can't we just have a little more freedom when it comes to installing apps on our devices? ๐Ÿค”

I guess this is a reminder that even the smallest companies can get crushed by the giants in the industry ๐Ÿ’ช. But hey, MacPaw's not giving up! They're moving on to other projects and trying new things, so maybe there's hope for them yet ๐Ÿ’ก And who knows, maybe one day we'll see more alternative app stores pop up? ๐Ÿคž

๐Ÿค” I'm kinda bummed about this news, you know? Setapp Mobile was like that one alternative app store on iOS where devs could showcase their work outside of the Apple ecosystem ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ป. It had potential, but it seemed like no matter how hard they tried, they just couldn't compete with Apple's stranglehold on the app market ๐Ÿคฏ.

And now, I guess it's just gonna leave users without access to those cool apps ๐Ÿšซ. That Oleksandr Kosovan dude seems legit in saying that their business model was whack for the EU market ๐Ÿค‘, but still... can't help feeling a little bad for all those devs who put their eggs in Setapp Mobile's basket ๐Ÿฅš.

I mean, on the bright side, they're working on some new projects like Eney, which sounds super interesting ๐Ÿค–. And hey, maybe this'll be an opportunity for other alternative app stores to pop up and give Apple a run for their money ๐Ÿ’ช? Fingers crossed!

I'm kinda bummed about this ๐Ÿค”... I've used Setapp Mobile for years and loved having the flexibility to install apps without being tied to Apple's App Store. It was like having a backdoor to more freedom on my iOS devices ๐Ÿšช. Now it looks like we're stuck with only one app store option, which can be frustrating for developers who want to reach users beyond Apple's ecosystem.

It's also ironic that this happens as Apple is becoming even more dominant in the mobile space... I mean, don't get me wrong, they offer a great user experience and all ๐Ÿ™Œ, but it feels like we're losing out on some of the innovation and choice that used to come from other players. Anyway, hope MacPaw's new projects will help fill the gap! ๐Ÿ’ป

Ugh man, I'm like really sad about Setapp Mobile shutting down ๐Ÿค•...I know it's been around for like 6 months or so, but I was getting used to having more choices on my phone ๐Ÿ’ป. The thing is, it feels like Apple has all the power when it comes to app stores and devs are just trying to keep up, you know? It's not that Setapp wasn't trying to be a good alternative, but I guess the EU's not really making it easy for them ๐Ÿ˜. Now we're stuck with only one app store...I hope they come up with something new soon ๐Ÿคž

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I'm low-key sad to see Setapp Mobile go - I loved that they gave developers a chance to reach more users outside of the Apple ecosystem. It was kinda refreshing to have an alternative app store ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ’ป. I get why they made the decision, but it's still disheartening for us end-users who want some flexibility with our iOS devices ๐Ÿ™„. I mean, can't we just get some decent third-party apps on those things? ๐Ÿ˜’

Ugh I'm so bummed about this! ๐Ÿ’” Losing access to apps on Feb 16th feels like the end of an era for me. I've been using Setapp Mobile for a while now and it's been such a lifesaver - especially with my busy schedule, I can just download and use whatever app I need without worrying about compatibility issues. Now Apple is making it harder and harder for third-party stores to compete... it's like they're suffocating innovation ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. Can't help but feel that MacPaw made the right call though - it's all about adapting to changing market conditions, I guess. Still gonna miss Setapp Mobile tho ๐Ÿ˜”

OMG ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ’ป, just heard about Setapp Mobile shutting down on Feb 16th ๐Ÿคฏ! That's like, so sad for all the devs & users who relied on it ๐Ÿค•. I mean, we get it, business models change & stuff, but still... it's gonna be hard for devs to find another way to reach their customers on iOS devices ๐Ÿ“ฑ. Setapp Mobile was like a breath of fresh air in terms of giving developers more control over their app stores ๐Ÿ’ธ. Now, devs & users are stuck with only Apple's options ๐Ÿ‘‘. Hopefully, other companies will step up & fill the gap, but for now, it's just... meh ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’” I'm so sad to hear that Setapp Mobile is shutting down on Feb 16th! It was like having a secret app store in the EU where devs could showcase their creative work without Apple's restrictions ๐Ÿค–. But I get it, commercial conditions are tough and MacPaw needs to adapt ๐Ÿ“ˆ. I hope devs can find new ways to share their apps and users won't lose access to them ๐Ÿคž. On the bright side, Eney sounds like a cool AI assistant and Setapp Desktop is still around ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ป

Ugh, I'm not gonna lie, I kinda feel bad for the devs who created apps on Setapp Mobile... like, they put their blood sweat & tears into those apps, only to have them basically rendered useless on Feb 16th lol ๐Ÿคฏ. And can we talk about how Apple is literally strangling competition in the EU? It's all well and good for Apple to keep us locked down, but where's the love for devs who want to create alternative ecosystems? Like, I get it, business model didn't work out, but still... ๐Ÿ˜’. On the bright side, Eney AI assistant sounds kinda cool ๐Ÿค–. Guess we'll just have to wait & see how that turns out ๐Ÿ’ก

man this is sad news ๐Ÿค• think about all those devs who were counting on setapp mobile to reach more users... its like, you gotta adapt to the market or risk getting left behind ๐Ÿ’ธ my take is that it's a reminder for us as entrepreneurs/creators to stay flexible and open to changes in the market. sometimes even the best ideas don't work out due to circumstances beyond our control ๐ŸŒช๏ธ but that doesn't mean we give up, right? we just gotta pivot & find new opportunities ๐Ÿ”„

I'm so down with this move ๐Ÿค”, I mean, who needs more choice when you already have Apple's App Store? It's overrated anyway ๐Ÿ˜ด. But at the same time, can't believe we're losing another alternative app store ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. Like, what's up with Apple making it so hard for indie devs to get in on the game? It's all about control and profit ๐Ÿ’ธ. Still, I guess Setapp Mobile did have its issues โ€“ slow updates, annoying notifications... ๐Ÿšซ. On the bright side, it means more time for MacPaw to focus on other projects that might actually change the game ๐ŸŽฎ. But will Eney be able to compete with Siri? ๐Ÿค–

ugh, it's like they're just gonna leave us high and dry ๐Ÿคฏ... setapp mobile was like the alternative to apple's app store, you know? gave devs a chance to get their apps out there too, but i guess it wasn't enough for macpaw ๐Ÿค‘. i mean, what even is an "evolving commercial condition" anyway? sounds like corporate speak for "we're losing money and can't make it work anymore". now we're stuck with apple's ecosystem again and it's just so... restrictive ๐Ÿคฏ. developers are all gonna be left scrambling to get their apps out there and users are gonna have to start paying more for the same stuff they already had on setapp mobile ๐Ÿ’ธ. it's just another example of how big corps can just shut down what's not making them money ๐Ÿ˜”.
