Things You Should Have Done series two review – the Bafta-winning comedy shows flashes of brilliance

"Things You Should Have Done" season two is more of an enigma than its predecessor. The BBC Three series began with a dry and quirky tone, centered around Chi (Lucia Keskin), a 23-year-old "stay-at-home daughter" from middle England, navigating life after a traumatic car crash claimed her parents. While the show never succumbed to outright sadness, it took on a zany, farcical quality that kept viewers entertained.

The writing often featured absurd situations and characters speaking in nonsensical idioms. Chi's interactions with her aunt Karen were especially memorable, particularly their biting insults and ridiculous antics. The death of Karen proved pivotal in altering the tone, though her absence felt glaring. Without her scheming and meek husband Dave's misfortunes to anchor the show, "Things You Should Have Done" took on a different character.

Season two boasts talented performances from new additions Bridget Christie as Ruth and Sarah Kendall reprising her role as Sarah Gilbeaux. The chemistry between these characters often made for compelling scenes. Newcomer Juliet Cowan shines as Claudia, rich and unpredictable sister of Dave, whose eccentricities are sometimes reminiscent of Dr. Seuss.

The show's narrative structure also underwent significant changes with season two, now centered around Chi's therapy sessions with Ruth. With the loose list from series one largely abandoned, "Things You Should Have Done" takes on a more defined identity, albeit one that diverges from its original tone.

While fans remain hopeful for Karen's eventual return, those willing to embark on this altered journey will be rewarded with some truly unforgettable moments – such as a spirited rendition of the song "Pure and Simple" by Hear'Say.

I'm not sure what I'm expecting from season 2 yet 🤔. The original tone was definitely quirky, but now it's more... intense? I mean, I love Bridget Christie as Ruth, she brings a whole new level of sass to the show 😂. But at the same time, Karen's absence is kinda felt, you know? It's like trying to put together a puzzle with missing pieces 🤯. Will they make it work or will we be left wondering what could've been? Only time (and season 2) will tell ⏰.

I'm not sure what I'm expecting from Season 2 of "Things You Should Have Done" anymore 🤔📺. They changed up the tone so much, it's like they're trying to be two different shows at once 🔄. Chi's still got that dry wit going on, but now she's in therapy with a new character, Ruth, who brings some nice energy to the show 💡. The addition of Bridget Christie and Sarah Kendall is definitely a plus 👏. But what happened to Karen? She was such a big part of the first season's weirdness 😂. I'm hoping they'll find a way to bring her back, but if not, I guess Season 2 is still gonna be worth watching 📺👍

I think the change in tone was kinda needed tbh 🤷‍♀️. I mean don't get me wrong, Karen's antics were always the highlight for me but at times it felt like the show relied too much on her weirdness 😂. I loved how they added new characters and especially Bridget Christie as Ruth, she brought this whole new level of sass 🤑. The therapy sessions with Ruth are so cleverly done, it's like you're getting two shows for one price 🤔. And yeah, the song rendition was HILARIOUS 😂, I was laughing out loud! Can't wait to see what they do next and if Karen comes back 🤞

I gotta say, I'm a bit confused about season two of "Things You Should Have Done". I mean, the first one was so quirky and fun, but now it's like they took all the weirdness and turned it down a notch? 🤔 It feels like they're trying to do something different, but it's not quite working for me. The new characters are cool, don't get me wrong, but I miss that original zany tone 😊. And what's up with Karen's absence? That was a big part of the show's charm. But hey, if you're down to explore this new side of the series, I guess it's worth checking out 📺.

Season two of Things You Should Have Done is like that weird cousin who shows up uninvited but always brings the energy 😂. I mean, I'm not sure what's going on with this show anymore, but it's definitely not the same zany ride as the first season 🤪. The new characters are actually pretty cool, especially Bridget Christie's Ruth, she's like a therapist who's also judging you for your life choices 👀. And Sarah Kendall is back as Sarah Gilbeaux, which is always a plus. But seriously, I'm not sure what happened to the original tone of the show, it just feels...different now 🤔. I guess that's what happens when you shake up the formula and try new things. Still, if they can bring back Karen's scheming ways without sacrificing the quirky vibe, I'll be a happy fan 😊.

so season 2 is like totally different vibe from season 1 🤔💭 it's still quirky but more serious than before... i think that's good tho? we get to see chi's therapist sessions with ruth and her friend sarah, which adds a new dynamic to the show 📝👥 and bridget christie is amazing as ruth! 👏 but i miss karen so much 😢💔 her death was such a shock... can't wait to see what happens next 🎉💫

🤔 I gotta say, season two is like, totally different from the first one... in a good way? It's still quirky and stuff, but it's more focused on Chi's therapy sessions with Ruth. That new dynamic between them is actually really interesting. And I'm glad they brought back Sarah Kendall as Sarah Gilbeaux - her character was always a highlight for me. But, like, where's Karen at? Her absence does change the tone of the show, you know? It feels more grounded now, but still weird and fun in its own way... 🎶 That "Pure and Simple" cover by Hear'Say is actually pretty iconic 😂

I'm not sure what happened to the show I loved so much 😕. They went from quirky humor to some kinda weird experiment 🤯. Don't get me wrong, Bridget Christie is hilarious as Ruth, but it's just not the same without Karen and Dave being a couple 🚫. The new narrative focus on Chi's therapy sessions is interesting, I guess 🤔... but what about when there's no one to yell at? 😂 Just kidding, sorta 😜. Seriously though, if they could find a balance between weirdness and the old charm, I'd be down for season three 👍

🤔 Season two is like, totally different vibes, right? I mean, I loved the quirky tone of season one, but this time around it's more...mysterious? 😐 The writers are pushing boundaries with new characters & relationships, like Claudia – she's just soooo weird and wonderful! 🌿 And Ruth, Bridget Christie, is amazing as Chi's therapist. Their sessions are like the heart of the show now. But I gotta say, missing Karen's sharp tongue & Karen's antics was kinda a letdown. Like, where's my dose of zany chaos? 😂 Still, it's all good. New moments to discover & love! 👍

I'm kinda disappointed with season two... it lost that offbeat charm that made me love the show in the first place 🤔. The new additions were cool, but they didn't quite fit the quirky vibe I was expecting. And what's up with the narrative change? It feels like they tried to take a more "serious" approach, which kinda sucked the fun out of it for me 😐. Still, I'm willing to give it another shot if they can bring back that zany energy from season one... and maybe, just maybe, Karen will make a surprise return 🎉!

I don’t usually comment but... I was really invested in season one and was kinda hoping they wouldn’t stray too far from the original tone, you know? But honestly, season two is still pretty great! The new additions are amazing, especially Bridget Christie as Ruth - she’s got this dry wit that just kills me 🤣. And Juliet Cowan as Claudia? Forget about it, she’s like a real-life Dr. Seuss character 😂. I do miss Karen though, but I guess the show needed some change to stay interesting. The therapy sessions with Chi and Ruth are really compelling, and that song by Hear'Say at the end... wild 🎵. Still, I don’t know if they’ll ever recapture the same magic as season one, but I’m willing to give it another shot 💭.

idk why they changed the vibe of things so much, season 2 just feels like a different show 🤔, still quirky but now it's all about chi's therapy sessions which is cool i guess, not as entertaining as the first season when karen was around 😂, new characters are alright i mean bridget christie's ruth is fire 💁‍♀️ but they lost that weird charm from the beginning of the show 🤪, still gonna keep watching tho 👀

I'm kinda disappointed that season two doesn't quite live up to the zany goodness of the first one 🤔. The tone change after Karen's death feels a bit jarring, and I miss her wacky antics with Dave 😂. The new characters are great, though - Bridget Christie as Ruth is fantastic, and Sarah Kendall's return as Sarah Gilbeaux is always entertaining 💁‍♀️. Juliet Cowan's Claudia is pretty quirky too, but sometimes feels a bit one-dimensional 🤷‍♀️.

The therapy sessions with Chi and Ruth do feel like a departure from the original format, but it works to some extent 👏. The show still has its funny moments, especially when Bridget Christie brings her signature wit to the screen 😂. But overall, I think season two is more of a "what have we done?" situation than a celebration 🤦‍♀️. Still, if you're feeling nostalgic for the first season or just want some quality comedy, it's worth checking out 👍

omg I was kinda hoping season 2 would get back to its quirky vibe 🤔, but I think they made some great changes too 😊. The new additions like Bridget Christie are literally perfect in their roles 👏, and Sarah Kendall's character is still so lovable even when she's being a bit of a mess 🤗. The therapy sessions with Ruth sound really interesting... I'm intrigued to see where it takes Chi 💡

Season two of "Things You Should Have Done" is definitely an enigmatic beast 🤯. I think it's great how they've introduced new characters like Bridget Christie's Ruth, who brings a sense of authority to Chi's therapy sessions 🧘‍♀️. The dynamics between Chi and Ruth are undeniable chemistry 💁‍♀️. However, I'm still missing that quirky tone from the first season - Karen's absence is deeply felt 🤕. The show's narrative structure change does make it feel more defined, but at times, it feels a bit disjointed 😒. Overall, though, I think this new direction has its perks, especially with Juliet Cowan's standout performance as Claudia 💃.

omg i love how they changed up the tone of things you should have done season 2 it was like they took all the quirky bits from before and amplified them for this season 🤣 but at the same time its nice to see that chi is still navigating her own stuff without karen's... let's say 'help' 😂 bridget christie as ruth is def a game changer, i loved how she brought that sassy energy to the show 💁‍♀️ and sarah kendall reprising her role as sarah was like the icing on the cake 🍰 but can we pls get karen back in season 3?! i need my aunt karen fix 😂

I'm not sure about this season 2 thing... I mean, I love Chi and all but the tone feels kinda off. Like, what happened to that quirky humor from before? It's still entertaining but it's just so... different 🤔. And don't even get me started on Karen's absence - I was literally invested in her sassy antics 😂. But hey, new additions like Bridget Christie and Sarah Kendall bring some fresh energy to the show. And that song "Pure and Simple" is still stuck in my head 🎵. Guess you gotta roll with the punches sometimes?
