Two men sentenced to prison for 2022 carjacking of a FedEx truck in Grays Ferry

Two Men Sentenced to Prison for Stolen FedEx Truck with $500k Cocaine

A 37-year-old Philadelphia man has received a 22-year prison sentence for his role in the 2022 carjacking of a FedEx truck in Grays Ferry. Ronald Byrd, who had previously been on supervised release for a federal drug conviction, was found guilty of carjacking and related charges.

His accomplice, Saikeen Dixon, 32 of Philly, received more than 12 years in prison on similar charges, according to the US Attorney's Office. Prosecutors say that Byrd targeted the FedEx truck, which contained nine kilograms of cocaine worth $500,000 each, after receiving tips about its whereabouts.

In a bizarre sequence of events, Byrd had been stalking the truck driver and making phone calls and sending text messages to the driver asking for the package. However, when the driver refused to hand over the package, Byrd and his accomplice, Dixon, carjacked the truck at gunpoint in an attempt to obtain it.

The FedEx driver was able to outsmart them by refusing to give up the package, and instead, he contacted his supervisors, who took the package onto their van. The suspects then followed the driver's vehicle, eventually forcing him to stop at a red light before Byrd exited the Jeep and pointed a gun at the driver.

The driver quickly jumped out of the truck and ran into oncoming traffic, while Byrd drove the FedEx truck across the Grays Ferry Bridge with Dixon in pursuit. They were eventually stopped at 47th Street and Linmore Avenue, where Byrd attempted to open the back of the truck before fleeing in the Jeep with Dixon.

The package contained nine individually wrapped plastic packages labeled "DSQUARED2," each containing one kilogram of cocaine. The FBI worked closely with local law enforcement agencies to crack down on the operation and bring Byrd and Dixon to justice.

US Attorney David Metcalf described Byrd as a "clearly a danger to our community" who showed no regard for the law. He added that the sentence not only holds Byrd accountable but also makes the city safer.

Ugh, can't believe these guys thought they could just steal a FedEx truck with like a half mil worth of cocaine and get away with it ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, come on, Ronald Byrd was even on supervised release for a previous conviction and still thought he could pull off this stunt? It's like they must've been under some kinda delusional spell ๐Ÿ˜‚.

I'm glad the FedEx driver wasn't hurt in the whole ordeal, that would've been way worse than them going down ๐Ÿ™. And honestly, 22 years is a pretty harsh sentence for Byrd, but I guess it's fitting considering how reckless and violent they were in trying to get away with the package. At least they won't be bothering our streets anymore ๐Ÿ‘.

Anyway, it just goes to show that you can't outsmart law enforcement if you're involved in something as stupid and dangerous as this ๐Ÿšซ. I'm all for keeping these kinds of people behind bars where they belong ๐Ÿ”’.

Man, can you believe this? These two guys thought they could just steal that FedEx truck and get away with $500k worth of cocaine? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ But what really gets me is how clever the driver was in outsmarting them. I mean, who tries to outrun their pursuers on foot while going into oncoming traffic? ๐Ÿ˜‚ The FBI's involvement in this case is also a huge win for public safety. It just goes to show that even with all the craziness on the streets, law enforcement can still get their hands on bad guys and bring 'em to justice. 22 years is way too long, but I guess you gotta follow the law, right? ๐Ÿ™„

I dont think 22 years is enough for Ronald Byrd, I mean, he's already been on supervised release before and did it again... he should be looking at like 30 or more years in my opinion ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿš—. And Saikeen Dixon seems to have gotten off pretty easy too, 12+ years is still way too short for someone who was directly involved with the carjacking and putting a FedEx driver's life in danger ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ˜’

๐Ÿค” I mean, 22 years in prison for carjacking a truck with $500k worth of coke? That's a pretty standard sentence considering it was just stolen from FedEx... ๐Ÿค‘ I'm not saying the guy didn't deserve it, but I also feel like 12+ years is a bit excessive for his accomplice. Maybe they should've gotten the same sentence? ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’” man gets 22 yrs for stealin' fedex truck with $500k coke ๐Ÿคฏ guess you could say he got caught in his own web of deceit ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ saikeen dixon is lucky to get less than 2 decades ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ can't believe they even tried to pull this off and almost got the driver killed ๐Ÿ˜ฑ at least the driver outsmarted them and the package ended up safe ๐Ÿ™ but now we gotta deal with the consequences of these guys' actions ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ธ

This is insane, 22 years in prison for trying to steal a truck with $500k worth of cocaine? That's just too long for someone who thought they could outsmart a FedEx driver ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I'm all for keeping our communities safe, but come on, that's excessive. And what really gets me is that Byrd was supposed to be on supervised release after his previous conviction... how does that even happen? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Anyway, it's good that the driver outsmarted them and prevented a much bigger disaster from happening ๐Ÿ’ช.

idk why ppl still do stupid things like this ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ, carjackin a truck with 500k in coke? what's the point of all dat stress & danger just for some ill-gotten gains? and those guys got 22 yrs & over 12 yrs in prison? seems like a bit harsh to me, I mean, they got caught, but did they really think they'd get away wit it? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ˜ฌ this is so crazy how those 2 guys thought they could just steal a truck with like $500k worth of coke and get away with it... ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ 22 years in prison for Ronald Byrd feels like a no-brainer to me, but I guess you can never underestimate the lengths people will go to when they're in deep financial trouble ๐Ÿค‘. And seriously, who tries to steal a truck by pointing a gun at the driver? ๐Ÿ˜ณ that's just crazy talk... anyhoo, glad the FedEx driver was able to outsmart them and report it ASAP ๐Ÿ’ก

Ugh, can you believe these two dudes? They're so reckless and stupid! Stalking a FedEx truck for months, just waiting for the perfect moment to strike... it's like they thought they were in a video game or something ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. And that driver, man... he outsmarted them at every turn. I mean, who jumps into oncoming traffic? Only a hero, right? ๐Ÿ˜‚

And now they're both gonna do some serious time. 22 years and over 12 years... that's like, a whole decade gone for these guys. It just goes to show that crime doesn't pay, you know? The government's gotta keep people in line and make sure we stay safe.

I'm all for the sentence, though. These two are clearly a danger to society and have no regard for the law. They're lucky they didn't hurt anyone during that whole ordeal... ๐Ÿคž
