Detroit Rep. Introduces Articles of Impeachment Against Attorney General Bondi, Latest in a String of Failed Efforts

US Representative Shri Thanedar has announced his plans to introduce articles of impeachment against US Attorney General Pam Bondi, the latest in a series of high-profile impeach efforts that have garnered little traction.

Thanedar's move comes as he seeks reelection in a district that has remained safely Democratic. He faces four other Democrats in the August primary, including progressive state Representative Donavan McKinney.

Bondi has been embroiled in controversy over her handling of sensitive information, particularly regarding the release of files tied to Jeffrey Epstein. Thanedar accused Bondi of conspiring to cover up the release of these files, defying a congressional mandate to do so. He also claimed that she had abused her authority to pressure Minnesota for voter registration rolls and other sensitive data.

Furthermore, Thaneder alleged that Bondi had "weaponized" the Justice Department to target political opponents of President Donald Trump. The Attorney General has repeatedly drawn criticism for spreading false claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election, as well as her long-standing ties to Trump and her role as a campaign surrogate and fundraiser.

The announcement comes after two recent impeachment pushes by Thanedar that failed to gain traction. In December, he filed articles of impeachment against US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, accusing him of issuing unlawful military orders and mishandling classified information. No vote has been taken on that effort.

In April, Thaneder introduced seven articles of impeachment against Trump, alleging corruption, obstruction of justice, and other misconduct. Democratic leadership discouraged the effort, and Thanedar ultimately backed away from forcing a vote on the House floor.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has made clear that impeachment efforts against members of the Trump administration are effectively dead on arrival in a Republican-controlled chamber.

Bondi has not yet publicly responded to Thaneder's impeachment announcement.

OMG, like, another politician trying to get rid of their AG ! I mean, Pam Bondi already got roasted by Rep Thanedar over those Epstein files and now he's gonna try again? Idk if this is just a distraction from his own reelection woes . Anyway, it's kinda wild how much drama this is causing in DC right now . I mean, we get it, she's been involved in some shady stuff, but is this really worth taking to the House floor again? I don’t usually comment but I think it’s weird how this guy Thanedar keeps trying to impeach people and stuff . Like, what’s the goal here? Is he just trying to make a name for himself or something? idk what's going on with this guy Shri Thanedar, he just can't seem to let go . like, okay dude, you're trying to hold the AG accountable for some stuff, but do you really need to introduce articles of impeachment AGAIN? and now it's against Pam Bondi, another target for his wrath. i mean, i get that she was involved in some controversies, but come on, this is just getting old . Thanedar needs to focus on his own campaign and not try to take down the AG with this latest move . it's like, can't he see that impeachment efforts are just gonna get shot down?

It's like he's trying to make a name for himself in a district that's already pretty predictable . And let's be real, the timing couldn't be worse - with the primary just around the corner, it's gonna be a tough sell for him . I don't think even Thanedar thinks he can take down Bondi this time . I'm thinking, dude... impeaching someone is like, soooo stressful for everyone involved! It just seems like we're stuck in this cycle of drama and conflict all the time.
