UK charging industry could face £100m bill under business rate changes

🤔 The introduction of business rates on public electric vehicle chargers is a perplexing development that warrants closer examination. While the government's intention to promote eco-friendly transport is laudable, the proposed tax hike raises concerns about its potential impact on the industry's financial stability and ability to expand charging infrastructure.

The estimated £100 million annual bill could have far-reaching consequences, particularly for smaller operators who may struggle to absorb these increased costs 🤑. The question remains whether the benefits of this tax will outweigh the drawbacks, which may include site closures and reduced investment in new charging points 💸. It's essential that the government considers the long-term implications of this decision and explores alternative solutions that would support the growth of electric vehicle adoption without unduly burdening the industry 🚗💡

🤔 "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance." 🙅‍♂️

omg is this really happening?? £100m is insane! i cant even imagine what would happen if smaller operators start closing sites 🤯 they're already struggling big time due to slower sales. its like, i get it the gov wants us to switch to evs but can't we find a way to support them instead of taxing them even more?

i think chargeuk has a point tho, £25m is def too low... what do u guys think should happen here? 🤔

Ugh I'm getting anxious about the new £100m charge on public EV chargers 🤯! Smaller operators are gonna get hammered by this one, it's like they're not expected to absorb more costs already 🤑. The UK is trying to be more eco-friendly and encourage people to switch to electric cars but this tax is just gonna push them back 🚗. I hope the government listens to ChargeUK and comes up with a better plan, 'cause £300 per year for customers? That's just not right 💸.

🚗💸 I'm low-key worried about this £100m bill hitting electric vehicle chargers 🤯! It's like, the government is trying to promote eco-friendly transport, but then they go ahead and slap these hefty taxes on charging points 🙄. Smaller operators are gonna struggle to make ends meet, and it might even lead to some site closures 🚫. I mean, we're already seeing slower-than-expected sales, so this just adds another layer of complexity 🤔. The £25m annual cost estimate seems way off to me - shouldn't they be exempt from these taxes given their goal is to encourage electric car adoption? 🤑 It's like, how do they expect the industry to grow if it's saddled with so much financial strain 😬. Fingers crossed the Treasury listens and comes up with a more feasible solution 💪

🤔 I just don't get why they're taxing public EV chargers... like, isn't that what we want - for people to have easy access to those chargers so they can switch to electric cars? 🚗💨 It's not like the government is getting any less money from the increased sales of electric cars... and now they're just gonna pass on this extra cost to us, the customers? 😒 That's just not right. What's next, charging us for air to breathe? 🤣
