What is polygenic embryo screening in IVF and does it work?

The idea that couples are using IVF to check if their embryo is smart or tall seems kinda weird 🤔. I mean, isn't every human special in their own way? Shouldn't we just focus on giving those little embryos a chance at life instead of trying to predict what they might be like? And what's with these companies offering predictions for everything from IQ to height? It's all pretty sketchy, if you ask me 😐.

I've seen some studies that say polygenic scores are super unreliable and only capture a tiny part of the genes involved in complex traits. So how can we trust these predictions? And don't even get me started on the misuse of this tech... it's like people are trying to play God 💔. Can't we just stick to what we know works: giving those embryos a safe and loving environment to grow?

OMG 🤯 I'm low-key obsessed with the idea of knowing if your kid's gonna be a genius or not lol 😂 But like, seriously though, this is getting outta hand! They're already selling info on height, IQ, and physical characteristics 📊💻 Like, what's next? Predicting whether they'll be famous or have a million followers? 🤣 And the fact that they can access their own genetic data through GDPR is, like, super sketchy 😳 I don't know about you guys but I'm good with just having healthy babies 👶 That's it!

I'm not sure how these companies are making claims that their "polygenic scores" can predict IQ and height with any real accuracy... I mean, thousands of genes? It's like trying to read a book from a single sentence 🤔. And what's with the lack of regulation around this stuff? If they're using GDPR to get patients' info, that's already a red flag in my book. We need more concrete evidence before we start jumping into this without knowing the risks. Can someone point me to some solid studies on PGT-P and its accuracy? I'm not buying it until I see some credible sources 📰.

I'm not sure about these companies offering embryo screening for intelligence and height... 🤔 it sounds like they're just trying to make a quick buck off worried parents. Have you seen the studies on this? I need some solid info before I start jumping to conclusions.

And what's with the GDPR loophole? Can't patients just get their own genetic data without having it used for questionable purposes? 🙄 This whole thing feels like a giant mess waiting to happen.

I mean, I can see why parents would want to know more about their embryo's potential... but is this really the answer? How do we even define "intelligence" and "height" in an embryo, anyway? It's not like it's a straightforward science. 🧬

We need some serious research and regulation on this one before it gets out of hand. I'm watching from the sidelines, waiting for some credible sources to come forward with the facts. 💡

I'm super curious about this whole thing... 🤔 Like, isn't it weird that couples are using IVF to basically guess what their kid will be like? I mean, we already know they'll probably have your eyes and my nose... 😂

But seriously, isn't it a bit scary that these companies are offering predictions on stuff like height and IQ? Like, how accurate can they really be? My grandma is only 5'2" but she's super smart, so I don't think her "predictive score" would be very high... 🤷‍♀️

And what about the fact that some people are using their own genetic data to get this info? That sounds like a total invasion of privacy to me... 👀 Like, can't we just stick to testing for actual health problems and leave the guesswork out?

I don't know, maybe I'm just not seeing the big picture here... 🤔 But it seems to me that these companies are playing with fire by offering predictions on stuff they don't really understand. Can we trust them? Shouldn't we be more cautious? 🤷‍♀️

I'm low-key worried about this whole IVF loophole thing 🤔... I mean, what's next? Are they gonna screen embryos for your personality traits or something? 😂 But seriously, it's wild that some companies are already offering these "predictions" without any concrete evidence of their accuracy. And have you seen the prices for these services? It's like, whoa! 💸

I think we need to slow down and consider the bigger picture here. We're playing with fire when it comes to genetic editing and embryo screening. What about the potential risks and side effects? We can't just rush into this without doing our due diligence.

And let's not forget about the ethics of it all. Are these companies respecting people's right to know their embryo's "potential"? Or are they just preying on parents' fears and anxieties? 🤷‍♀️ It's a slippery slope, folks, and we need to be careful not to lose sight of what's truly important here.

For real though, I think we need more transparency and regulation around these services. We need to make sure that patients are getting the facts and not just being sold a bill of goods. 💡 Until then, I'll be keeping a close eye on this situation 📺
