Wisconsin judge convicted of obstructing arrest of immigrant requests new trial

Wisconsin Judge Seeks New Trial in Obstruction of Arrest Case

A judge convicted of obstructing federal agents during an immigration arrest at a Wisconsin courthouse has asked for a new trial. Hannah Dugan, who was found guilty last month on charges related to her actions, filed a motion late Friday requesting a fresh start.

Dugan's defense team claims she was unfairly targeted by Republican lawmakers and that her actions were taken in good faith as part of an honest attempt to protect the integrity of the court. This is unprecedented in US history, with Dugan stating that her case is the first instance where a judge has faced trial for their "wholly official" actions without any corruption or self-dealing.

As a result of the conviction and subsequent Republican threats to impeach her, Dugan had resigned from her position earlier this month. Her new motion seeks an acquittal on all charges, which she claims were fabricated by lawmakers seeking revenge against the first female judge in US history to face such a trial.

The move has sparked controversy, with many questioning whether Dugan's actions crossed any constitutional boundaries. However, it remains to be seen how the court will handle her request for a new trial and acquittal.

🤔 this whole thing is super sus... i mean, a judge getting convicted for trying to protect the integrity of the courthouse? that's like, so not on the table in any book on US law 📚 she's talking about "wholly official" actions without corruption or self-dealing, but is it really that simple? what if her actions were just, you know, bad judgment? or even a power trip? 💁‍♀️ i feel like we're seeing some pretty heavy politics at play here, and i'm not sure the court's gonna be able to untangle it all 🤯

omg i just got back from the most random vacation in hawaii 🌴🏖️ and my phone died the whole time so i had no idea about this judge thing... but like isn't it weird that she's asking for a new trial because republicans were being mean to her? didn't they already have their chance to impeach her or whatever? anyway back to hawaii, the beaches were so beautiful and i ate way too much poke bowl 🍜😋

🤔 I mean, this is wild. So Hannah Dugan was trying to protect the integrity of the courthouse but now she's asking for a new trial? 🚫 It feels like a big ol' mess. And what's up with these Republican lawmakers being all aggressive about it? Can't they just let her do her job? 🙄 I'm not saying Dugan is innocent or anything, but it seems weird that this would be the first time ever for a judge to get in trouble like this... isn't there some precedent already for this kinda thing? 🤷‍♀️

omg what a twist 🤯 a judge asking for a new trial because she thinks she was setup by rep lawmakers smh like what did she expect? 🙄 anyway i guess its interesting that shes saying it never happened cuz corrupt or whatever but lets be real, obstruction of justice is never a good look 📝 even if shes the first female judge to do it. this whole thing has me wondering if the rep lawmakers really are trying to impeach her for being the first female judge in US history... meanwhile i just want to know what she was thinking in that moment when she allegedly blocked the federal agents 🤔

🤔 omg i was watching this whole thing go down on tv last night and i'm like so confused!! Hannah Dugan is literally saying she did everything right as a judge but got railroaded by republicans who are just mad because a woman broke the mold 🙅‍♀️. i get it, her actions might have been misguided or whatever but trying to get a new trial? that's like, super rare even for us! 🤯 what if she actually did break some rules or sth? idk man, i'm all over this drama 💁‍♀️

omg, this is wild 🤯 like, a judge asking for a new trial on federal charges? that's never happened before! i remember when judges were supposed to be all impartial and stuff. now it feels like they're just getting bullied by lawmakers. i mean, Hannah Dugan was trying to do her job, protect the integrity of the court... but did she go about it the right way? that's what the court needs to figure out 🤔. and can we talk about how this is a big deal for women in the law? first female judge facing trial like this? it's a huge step forward, but also kinda scary 😬.

umm so like I was watching this news on tv yesterday and I'm just confused what happened here 😕 so there's this judge Hannah right? she did something that got her in trouble with some lawmakers and now she's asking to be tried again 🤔 like what even is obstruction of arrest? can someone explain it to me in simple terms? 🤷‍♀️ also why is everyone making such a big deal out of it? I don't get why Republicans are being so mean to her 😒
