WM Phoenix Open: Chris Gotterup beats Hideki Matsuyama in play-off with Scottie Scheffler tied third

Chris Gotterup stunned the golfing world at the WM Phoenix Open after emerging victorious in a thrilling play-off against Hideki Matsuyama.

The Danish golfer, who had won previously in Hawaii earlier this year, produced an incredible 64 to propel himself into contention, with five birdies in the final six holes catapulting him to a total of 16 under par. His closest rival, Matsuyama, was left in his wake as he failed to capitalize on a putt on the 18th hole to seal the win.

Gotterup's stunning victory came after Matsuyama had an opportunity to take control, only for it to slip away from him. Gotterup seized the moment, sinking a lengthy putt to card a birdie and secure the championship in style.

"It didn't even cross my mind until now," Gotterup beamed, as he celebrated his third win of the season with loved ones watching on. "I really have no idea what's going on. I'm just having such an amazing time playing right now."

Despite missing out on the top spot, Scottie Scheffler was still a force to be reckoned with, carding a remarkable 64 in his final round to finish third in the standings.

"I put myself in a tough position after the first round, but three really solid days," Scheffler reflected. "Today was another really good round. I'm going to fall a few shots short it looks like, but overall proud of the fight this week and did some good stuff."

Fellow Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick rounded off his tournament in ninth place, finishing with three birdies in his final five holes.

With his second major victory on the horizon, Gotterup proved that he's not to be underestimated. The question now is: what's next for the talented Danish golfer?

lol gotta love how the Japanese guy always ends up choking under pressure πŸ™„. Matsuyama had it in the bag and still managed to blow it. I mean, who putsts on 18th hole with any kind of confidence πŸ˜‚. Gotterup was just fortunate he made a decent putt at the right time. Scheffler's third place finish is impressive but honestly what are the odds when you're chasing after someone else's bad play? πŸ€”

πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ I'm so stoked for Chris Gotterup πŸŽ‰! This guy's talent is undeniable and his humility is really inspiring. Three wins this season already? Mind-blowing! It just goes to show that with dedication and passion, you can achieve greatness. And let's be real, it's awesome to see a Danish golfer killing it on the international stage 😎. Scheffler and Fitzpatrick are giving him some serious competition though, so I'm curious to see how he'll keep pushing himself forward πŸ”₯. Anyway, that was an insane finish to the WM Phoenix Open! 🀯

πŸ”₯ Oh man, what a finish at the WM Phoenix Open! Chris Gotterup absolutely killed it out there, 64 in the final round and all the birdies coming down to the wire 🐦. I'm loving this guy's game right now - he's got the skills and the swagger πŸ’ͺ. Matsuyama had his chance and blew it, but you can't take away from Gotterup's clutch play on 18 πŸ™Œ. Scheffler put up a great fight too, finishing third and showing us what he's capable of. Fitzpatrick hanging in there is always a bonus for me 😊. Now, can we talk about Gotterup's major game? He's definitely got the goods to make some noise at the next big one πŸ†!

I don’t usually comment but... I think Chris Gotterup was just incredible! 64 in the final round is nuts 🀯, and to come from behind like that must've been super nerve-wracking. The guy's got game and his confidence seems sky-high right now 😎. And kudos to Hideki Matsuyama for keeping it close – he had that win right there and then had a brain fart on the 18th πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

I mean, I'm loving the underdog story here. This Danish dude's got some serious talent and his attitude is so refreshing. Can't wait to see what the future holds for him! πŸ’ͺ

OMG πŸ€―πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ I'm SHAKING right now!! Chris Gotterup is a total legend on the golfing course! I mean, 64 in the final round? That's insane! And to come from behind and win it all in a play-off? Genius move by Matsuyama to miss that putt lol πŸ˜‚ anyway, Can't wait to see what Chris does next! He's already proven himself to be a top golfer! 🀩

omg gotterup is like whoa 🀯! i was so rooting for matsuyama but gotterup just pulled off an insane comeback πŸ’ͺ🏼, that last putt was everything 😍. can't believe it didn't even cross his mind until now lol, sounds like he's still on cloud nine ☁️. anyway, gotta give it up to scheffler too, 64 in the final round is no joke πŸ™Œ! and matt fitzpatrick hanging in there till the end, solid job πŸ‘. can't wait to see what gotterup does next πŸ€”

man 🀯 I'm still reeling from Chris Gotterup's insane win at the WM Phoenix Open! 64 in his final round is just mental, and that play-off against Hideki Matsuyama was pure drama 😲. I love how Gotterup kept it so calm and collected, he literally didn't even realize what was happening until now πŸ™ƒ. Scheffler's third place finish isn't too shabby either, gotta give him props for bouncing back from a tough first round.

But seriously, this is an amazing time to be watching golf - we've got talented players like Gotterup and Scheffler bringing the fire πŸ”₯. And Fitzpatrick putting in some solid rounds too πŸ™Œ. What's next for Gotterup? Can't wait to see him take on his second major! πŸ’ͺ

OMG 🀯 Chris Gotterup just SLAYED πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ the golfing world at WM Phoenix Open!!! 64 in the final round is insane 🀯! He played like a rockstar πŸ’₯ and left Hideki Matsuyama in his dust πŸ˜‚. I'm living for this guy right now πŸ”₯. Gotterup's got game, and he's definitely on fire πŸ”ͺ. Can't wait to see what he does next πŸ€”.

Omg, can u blieve Chris Gotterup just won the WM Phoenix Open?? 🀯 He was so calm and collected after sinking that putt, I'm like totally inspired lol! His game plan must've been super solid to pull off a 64 in the final round. And Matsuyama, man... he had his chance but just couldn't seal the deal πŸ’”. Scheffler's 3rd place finish isn't bad either, all three of them were on fire today! 🌟 Matt Fitzpatrick didn't have the best tournament but that last stretch of birdies was so clutch! Gotterup's third win this season is insane... what's his secret to success? Should we be watching out for him at the next major?? πŸ€”

omg can't believe gotterup pulled off this insane comeback 🀯 i mean 64 in the final round is already crazy enough but five birdies in the last six holes? that's just insane πŸ˜‚ and matsuyama just couldn't capitalize on that putt... did he really miss a putt to win the championship? πŸ€” i'm still trying to process it all. gotterup seems so humble though, like he's genuinely surprised by his win πŸ’ can't wait to see what he does next πŸ‘€

Hehe 🀩, wow what a finish! 😲 Chris Gotterup just went from zero to hero πŸ’₯, and I'm loving it 😍! He's got game face on πŸ”₯, and those birdies were straight fire πŸ”ͺ. Matsuyama was right there with him πŸ‘«, but Gotterup made the clutch putt 🀞, and boom! πŸŽ‰

I'm so hyped for this guy πŸ˜†, he's like a golfing rockstar 🌟. And Scheffler wasn't too shabby either πŸ™Œ, still a solid round 64 to finish third. Fitzpatrick had a good swing too πŸ‘, even if it was just enough for ninth place.

Now we gotta wonder what's next for Gotterup πŸ€”... will he keep the momentum going? Only time'll tell ⏰, but one thing's for sure - this guy's on fire πŸ”₯!

omg did u guys see that gotterup just pwned matsuyama 😱 i mean seriously 64 in his final round is insane! and that play-off was insane too, like who needs a strategy when ur just gonna sink putts lol. but for real though, gotterup's third win of the season has me hyped 🀩 now we gotta ask ourselves what's next for this danish sensation? is he gonna dominate majors or what πŸ€”

im loving this comeback from gotterup, 64 in a play-off? insane 🀯, and that putt at 18 was like the icing on the cake πŸ˜‚, i was on the edge of my seat when matsuyama had his chance slip away, did he think he was gonna take it all the way? anyway, congrats to gotterup and the danish fans for this epic win πŸŽ‰

OMG, what a finish at the WM Phoenix Open 🀯! Chris Gotterup totally smashed it out there, I'm living for that play-off win against Hideki Matsuyama 😲! Gotterup's mental game is on point, he just stayed calm and cool under pressure. That birdie putt was pure magic ✨. And Scheffler putting in a solid performance, finishing third is still an awesome result πŸ™Œ. I'm curious to see what Gotterup does next after this major win, he's got the momentum and skill to take on any course πŸ’ͺ. Maybe he'll even give Tiger Woods a run for his money 😎!

idk how else gonna say it πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ... Chris Gotterup's win at WM Phoenix Open was kinda expected tbh. like, 64 in final round? that's not even a surprise anymore πŸ˜’. but still gotta respect his game and stuff. matsuyama on the other hand... poor guy just couldn't seal the deal πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. anyway, scottie scheffler still brought the heat with that 64, so kudos to him πŸ’―. fitzpatrick's finish was pretty solid too, even if it wasn't enough for top 3 😐. guess we'll have to wait & see what gotterup does next... maybe he won't surprise us again πŸ€”

I don't trust this guy at all... He just so happens to win a big tournament right after I start reading about him in the news. Like, what are the chances? It's just too convenient. And that Matsuyama guy was really unlucky, I guess. Too bad for him, but honestly, it feels like Gotterup got an easy break. And Scheffler finishing third is still a big deal, so at least he didn't embarrass himself completely πŸ˜’

lolol got to say, Chris Gotterup came out of nowhere and smashed it at WM Phoenix Open 🀯! 64 in the final round is insane, who wouldn't wanna play that level of golf πŸ˜‚. Matsuyama had his chances but just couldn't capitalize on 'em. Can't believe he gave it away on the last hole 😳. Scheffler was solid tho, third place isn't bad at all πŸ™Œ. Fitzpatrick had a decent finish too, 9th spot's still respectable πŸ‘. Now got to wonder what Gotterup's got planned for next... maybe we'll see him take another major? πŸ€”

I mean, think about it, Chris Gotterup just pulled off a major upset and won the Phoenix Open without even knowing it was happening until after the fact πŸ˜‚. That's kinda like how some of our politicians operate, always flying under the radar till they land a big win 🀝. Scheffler's consolation prize for coming in 3rd is still nothing to sniff at, but you can't help but wonder if he's getting a little too comfortable 😐. Is he coasting? Does he need to step up his game? Meanwhile, Gotterup's on a hot streak and people are taking notice πŸ“ˆ. Can the Danes keep this momentum going? Will we see more of him on the big stage in the future? Only time will tell πŸ•°οΈ.

Omg I'm still reeling from this crazy finish 🀯! Chris Gotterup totally stole the show and I'm loving how humble he is about it 😊. His play-off win against Hideki Matsuyama was insane, and that putt to seal the deal must have been a total mind-game for him πŸ€”. Scheffler's 64 in the final round was epic too, and Fitzpatrick's late birdie surge was so cool πŸ‘.

But seriously, Gotterup is on fire right now πŸ”₯! His consistency and talent are undeniable, and I'm curious to see how he'll keep it up - a major victory next? 🀞 That would be amazing. Anyway, can't wait for the next golf tournament πŸŽΎπŸ‘
