Are you limiting the time you spend online? We'd like to hear from you

Time spent on social media has hit a slump, with many users seeking to curtail their online presence. According to a recent study conducted by digital audience insights company GWI for the Financial Times, adults in over 50 countries have seen a significant decline in the amount of time they spend on social platforms.

On average, the daily spend on social media has fallen to 2 hours and 20 minutes per day as of December last year – a decrease of nearly 10% since 2022. The most notable drop was among younger demographics, hinting that the youth are seeking more balance in their digital lives.

The trend is not without reason; many users feel overwhelmed by the constant stream of information, dubbed "advice pollution," and are looking to disconnect from this "slop." Others have grown weary of what they perceive as "polarising" content, seeking a respite from the intensity. For some, this has meant completely deleting accounts or limiting their screen time.

We're interested in hearing from you – have you too made a conscious effort to cut back on your social media usage? What steps have you taken and how do you feel the change has affected you? Have you discovered new hobbies or interests, perhaps rediscovering the joy of solitude?

The shift away from excessive online engagement presents an opportunity for users to reassess their digital habits and reclaim some control over their lives. By sharing your experiences, we can better understand this trend and encourage others to join in on the journey towards a healthier online presence.

I'm not surprised tbh πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I mean, have you seen the state of Facebook lately? It's all just noise, you know? People sharing their opinions on everything under the sun and it's just exhausting 😴. I've been trying to limit my time on Instagram too, but it's hard when everyone around me is always on their phones πŸ“±. I think it's cool that people are starting to wake up and realize they don't have to be slaves to their screens, though. It's about finding a balance and being more present in the world, you know? For me, it's been all about finding new hobbies and interests outside of social media... like reading and cooking πŸ³πŸ“–. I feel so much healthier now that I'm not constantly comparing my life to someone else's curated feed 😊.

I think its about time we took a step back from social media and gave our lives some breathing room πŸ™. I mean, let's be real, 2 hours and 20 minutes is a pretty significant chunk of time to spend staring at screens all day, every day 😴. And honestly, I've been guilty of it myself – getting sucked into the vortex of endless scrolling, comparing my life to curated highlight reels... it was exhausting 🀯.

But lately, I've been trying to cut back on my own social media usage and see how it affects me. It's funny, I used to think I was addicted to being connected 24/7, but now that I'm not as glued to my phone, I've started to notice the world around me more 🌞. I mean, I can actually enjoy a conversation without checking my notifications! πŸ‘«

Of course, it's not always easy – there are times when I just want to share something with my friends and family online, but now I'm trying to find alternative ways to do that, like phone calls or text messages πŸ“ž. And you know what? It's been really liberating.

I think the key is finding a balance, not cutting out social media completely (although some people might need to do just that). But for me, taking a step back from excessive online engagement has allowed me to focus on other things – like spending time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies I've forgotten about, and even trying to get more exercise πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ.

I think this is awesome! 🀩 I mean, people were glued to their screens 24/7 just a few years ago and now it's like they're taking a step back. For me, it was getting to the point where I couldn't even sit down with friends or family without my phone coming out of my pocket. Now I'm like "nope, let's have a conversation without Twitter" πŸ˜‚

I've started using this little diagram to track my screen time and I gotta say, it's been really helpful. πŸ“Š

| Time | Screen On | Screen Off |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 7am | πŸ‘ | πŸ‘Ž |
| 12pm | πŸ‘Ž | πŸ‘ |
| 8pm | πŸ‘Ž | πŸ‘ |

It's like a little checklist, reminds me to put my phone away when I'm supposed to be relaxing or being social. And honestly, it's made such a big difference. I feel way more present and focused now.

Has anyone else tried something like this? Or do you have any other tips for managing your screen time?

🀯 I'm loving this turn of events! I mean, who needs that much drama in their life, right? πŸ™„ I used to be a total social media addict too, but then I realized I was wasting so much time scrolling through feeds and comparing my life to others' highlight reels. It was like, "why am I feeling bad about myself when I'm staring at someone else's curated beach vacation?" πŸ˜‚

So, I made the conscious decision to scale back and now I limit my social media use to just an hour or two a day. And you know what? Life is actually better for it! I have more time for myself, I've picked up reading again (lol who am I kidding, I love books!), and I feel so much less stressed out. πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ Plus, I've discovered this amazing hobby of photography and I'm totally hooked now! πŸ“Έ

I think it's awesome that people are finally realizing they don't need to be constantly online to be happy or fulfilled. We need to take back control of our lives and remember what's truly important – relationships, experiences, and self-care, not just likes and followers! πŸ’•

🀯 I gotta say, I'm loving this trend! I was already at 30 minutes a day on socials, but now I can focus more on my own stuff πŸ“šπŸ’». It's crazy how much of a difference it makes to just have some quiet time in the morning without the constant notifications buzzing away from Facebook and Instagram πŸ“΄πŸ˜Ž
