I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole Nexperia thing
. So basically, the Dutch government stepped in because they were worried about losing control over a Chinese chipmaker, which would've made them too dependent on China for tech and stuff
. And now Minister Karremans is saying that it was all worth it because he's learned a valuable lesson about keeping Europe's economic security in check
.
I mean, I can kinda see his point - if you're not careful, one country can just take over your supply chains and you're stuck with them
. But at the same time, taking on China might've been a bit dramatic for a tiny country like the Netherlands
. And what's the plan now? Are they gonna keep an eye on Nexperia forever?
I guess the takeaway is that global supply chains are super complicated and we need to be careful about diversifying our partnerships
. But it's also kinda scary to think about how one country can just shut down production in another country
.
